09 October 2006 15:00 Children’s Hospital of the Future ProjectToday there are pathologies in Ukraine which our medicine is unable to cure. There are no medical institutions in Ukraine practicing bone-marrow transplantation from non-relative donors; we lack facilities for some kinds of plastic surgeries, oncologic neurosurgery, tectonic orthopedics (in part, oral surgeries), great and peripheral vessels surgeries; fetal tests on immunologic, hereditary, genetic and endocrine diseases cannot be performed up to modern standards; there exist certain problems with kidney transplantations in children, etc. To support children who now have to wait for their turn to receive treatment abroad or need complicated surgical operations, it is planned to create an All-Ukrainian Health Protection Center for Mothers and Children, the Children’s Hospital of the Future. A capsule was laid in the foundation of the clinics on March 16, 2006 in the territory of the Kyiv Feofaniya Clinics. The same day, the Ukraine 3000 Fund signed first agreements on financing the project: a Protocol of Intent and Preliminary Agreement with the Transbank Joint Stock Company, which has already transferred its first tranche for the hospital construction totaling UAH 1,000,000 ($ 200,000), and also an agreement with the Genesis Eurasia Corporation (the US), which has undertaken obligations to finance the institution’s work. The Children’s Hospital of the Future is to become a modern European level children’s medical institution, involving high technologies, best professionals, and intellectual resources of the medical sphere. The new medical facility will render adequate medical assistance to children from throughout Ukraine. Children with serious pathologies – tumors, oncohematological diseases, complicated somatic and surgical cases, perinatal lesions, - will receive top treatment. The project also envisages treating pregnant and recently confined women, in part, opening a pregnancy pathologies, premature birth, and assisted reproductive technology units, as well as a genetic consultation. The hospital’s planned capacity is 250 beds:
To support the project, the Ukraine 3000 Fund has launched a promotion tour of all Ukraine’s oblast centers. It has started September 29, 2006, in Lviv. Its goal is present the project of the future clinics and raise funds for its implementation. It is planned to construct the Children’s Hospital of the Future in Kyiv by costs of Ukrainian and foreign philanthropists. The project’s estimated cost is UAH 600 million ($120,000,000). This is the biggest charitable project in Ukraine’s history. The project to create and construct the hospital was supported by television channels: ICTV, 1+1, Inter, NTN, Novy, K1, Tonis, STB, NTKU, M1 Music Channel, and 24 Channel. On October 30, 2006, a press conference was held, with the participation of these channels’ representatives and Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 Fund Kateryna Yushchenko, resulting in the signing of a Memorandum on Cooperation within the framework of the Children’s Hospital of the Future project. November 1, 2006, a telethon was launched on these channels to support the project to create and construct the Children’s Hospital of the Future. All Ukraine’s mobile network operators have supported the project. Starting from October 1, 2006, every UMC, KyivStar, Golden Telecom, Life:), or Beeline subscriber can make a charitable contribution by sending an SMS at number 353 or calling this number, thus sending UAH 5 ($1) to the account of the Children’s Hospital of the Future. The construction of the All-Ukrainian Health Protection Center for Mothers and Children (the Children’s Hospital of the Future) is envisaged by the Cabinet Decision No. 722 of May 25, 2006, and Clause 17 of the Universal of National Unity. |
