Kateryna Yushchenko Visits Comer’s Children’s Hospital in Chicago02 July 2008 18:30
July 1, 2008, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Kateryna Yushchenko visited the Comer’s Children’s Hospital, a part of the University of Chicago Medical Center. Among other participants of the event were the hospital’s founder Mrs. Francy Comer, CEO of the University of Chicago Medical Center James Madara, Interim Dean for Science Michele Schiele, doctors and professors of the University and hospital. In course of the meeting Mrs. Kateryna described the Ukraine 3000 Foundation’s major medical projects and programs, speaking in more detail about the Children’s Hospital of the Future program. In their turn, the Comer’s representatives told Mrs. Kateryna about the construction of the hospital’s new building, in part, its architectural, medical, and constructive solutions based upon researches and polls among patients, parents, and doctors working or undergoing treatment at the hospital. The Comer’s management voiced their preparedness to give consultative services to the Ukraine 3000 Foundation regarding the construction of the All-Ukrainian Center to Protect Mothers’ and Children’s Health. Mrs. Kateryna toured the hospital, in part, General Therapy, Neonatology, and Radiology units, and talked to the doctors and patients. She visited the hospital’s new building construction site and saw miniatures of the equipment and indoor scenes used to create the best model of a hospital. The hospital leaders told her about interesting telemedicine projects they were implementing. The parties agreed to cooperate in experience exchange and training programs between Ukrainian and American doctors and also on the program to create the All-Ukrainian Center to Protect Mothers’ and Children’s Health, a.k.a. the Children’s Hospital of the Future. Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko visited the Comer’s Hospital in 2005. In 2006, a group of American experts visited the hospital to study its structure and operation as part of the Children’s Hospital of the Future program. Kateryna Yushchenko is staying in Chicago on a brief working visit. Earlier she has visited the Chicago Lighthouse Agency for the people who are blind or visually impaired, taken part in a business lunch with wife of the Mayor of Chicago Maggie Daley, and met with Mayor of Chicago Richard Daley. July 1, Mrs. Yushchenko visited Prof. Paul Sereno’s paleontology lab. |
