Meeting Held of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation’s Board of Trustees

April 21, 2008, the Board of Trustees of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation met at the Foundation’s premises. Among its participants were President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Kateryna Yushchenko, members of the Board of Trustees Vasyl Vovkun, Vitaly Klychko, Mykhaylyna Kotsiubinska, Maryna Krysa, Myroslav Popovych, Andriy Khalpakhchi, the Ukraine 3000 Foundation representatives Head of the Board of Directors Oleksandr Maksymchuk, Director of the Medical Programs Department Vira Pavliuk, Director of the Cultural Programs Department Oleksiy Kopytko, Director of the Science and Educational Programs Department Oleksandr Oliynyk, and the guests: wife of the Head of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Tereza Yatseniuk, Head of the Chief Service for Humanitarian Policy and National Cultural Heresy Preservation Oleksandr Bytsrushkin, and Advisor to Head of the Supervisory Board of the Foundation Andriy Myroshnichenko.

Opening the meeting. Mrs. Yushchenko said that in 2007 the Ukraine 3000 Foundation had achieved great success. “The quantity of our programs and projects is steadily transforming into quality,” she said. “We can see qualitative changes in every major area of our work: medicine, education, and culture. We can see the growing number of philanthropists, for whom helping others is becoming a part of their mentality, corporative culture, worldview, and even a need. We feel the support and trust from many people who had been more skeptical toward charity even a few years ago.”

At the meeting, the Ukraine 3000 Foundation representatives reported on the results of its work in 2007. In part, the Foundation’s attainments were presented within the general context of charity in Ukraine along with certain initiatives aimed at improving the legislation on charity and social responsibility.

The department heads presented the results of their divisions’ work and outlined their plans for the future. A high emphasis was laid upon the program on creating the All-Ukrainian Center to Protect Mother's and Children's Health, a.k.a. Children's Hospital of the Future. The Foundation and its partners are completing the hospital’s design. Soon the preparations will start on the construction site. A bid competition for providing the so-called heavy radiology equipment for the hospital, in part, a linear accelerator, is scheduled for May 2008. In addition, the program of training experts for the Children's Hospital of the Future is continuing.

Among the tasks announced for the year 2008 were launching a small grants program in culturology, unveiling the museum library, presenting the Ukrainian cinema in Berlin, Cannes, Moscow, etc., publishing the Hospital to Hospital magazine, developing the telemedicine and medical research network, taking part in working out the Single Rehabilitation Space state program, holding the annual Artek Dialogs Educational Forum, creating the Innovative Intellect public organization, and introducing the Dialog between Generations project.

The audience also was demonstrated a video dedicated to the Ukraine 3000 Foundation activities.

Founder of the Ukraine 3000 Foundation President Viktor Yushchenko was satisfied with the fact that the Foundation responded to urgent social issues, actively cooperating with both state and public institutions. He expressed his hope that the Ukraine 3000 Foundation would join important national projects like creating the Arts Arsenal, reviving the Baturino preserve, and expanding its programs to support folk arts and creativity.

Members of the Supervisory Board gave a high estimation to the Ukraine 3000 Foundation’s work, quoting, in part, the combination of large scale and concrete actions in its projects’ implementation. They offered a series of propositions regarding the Foundation’s further work.

The Supervisory Board is a management and control body with advisory and control authorities over the Foundation’s activities. The Foundation’s Supervisory Board members are globally recognized representatives of the national elite, whose public activities set an example of serving humane ideals.
