The heads of the Ukrainian Film Foundation and Nemiroff Company signed a long-term agreement (Memorandum) On Cooperation within the Framework of the Ukrainian Films for the World Project. The agreement envisages joint actions aimed at reviving the Ukrainian cinema, promoting Ukrainian culture abroad, forming and supporting a positive image of Ukraine in the world.

Mrs. Yushchenko said that the Ukraine 3000 Foundation announced the start of the Third Candle in the Window contest of posters on Holodomor and Third All-Ukrainian Contest for journalists for the best coverage of Holodomor in mass media. The competitions will last till November 2008, with results to be announced by the 75th anniversary of Holodomor.

The Holodomor in Luhansk Oblast: 1932-1933 collection of research papers and documents was published in 2008 by the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund and Luhansk Oblast State Archive. The collection includes 143 documents from state archives of Luhansk and Donetsk oblast, SSU special archive, and photographs of the 1930s from the Pshenychny Central Archive of Video and Photo Documents of Ukraine.

At the ceremony, Mr. Pioro read out a greeting letter to the School’s students and faculty from Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 Fund Kateryna Yushchenko. “We are proud that our country can boast an art workshop of such level. Your work proves that Ukraine has unique performing traditions and is able to preserve and develop them,” the letter read.

“I assure you that I, personally, along with my husband and the Ukraine 3000 Fund I head, as well as the whole conscious patriotic Ukrainian community, will do everything to bring back from oblivion every soul killed in the famine,” Mrs. Yushchenko said.

Addressing the audience, Mrs. Yushchenko tendered her thanks to all the exhibition organizers. “By creating this exhibition we wanted to familiarize the European audience with this tragic page of Ukraine’s history,” she said. “Today, the issue of the Manmade Famine has evoked a wide response from the global community.”

“We are celebrating a person for whom cinema is the meaning of life. We’ll never see her name in film credits, but many of these films would never happen if not for her,” Mrs. Yushchenko said, handing over the award.

Addressing the journalists, Mr. Myroshnichenko described major objectives and plans of the Ukrainian Film Foundation: creating a Ukrainian films catalogue, presenting best Ukrainian films at the international festivals, and promoting the Ukrainian cinema globally.

The said event was the first in a series of actions organized by SSU to present the collection at Kyiv universities. Similar events are scheduled to be held at the Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University and Kyiv Mohyla Academy National University.

The children decided to instruct the Ukrainian winner-to-be to address the participants of the Junior Eurovision 2007 in Rotterdam and call them to conduct a charitable action in a benefit of dispossessed children. They put their proposals in writing, to be complied in a single document and red out at the contest’s final concert.

Kateryna Yushchenko Decorated by Pope with Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Medal
The ceremony took place June 29, 2009, at the Ukrainian Institute of America in New York. The high award was bestowed upon Mrs. Yushchenko on behalf of Pope Benedict XVI by Rev. George Appleyard. In this way the Holy See celebrated high achievements by Mrs. Kateryna and the Ukraine 3000 Foundation she runs in the humanitarian field.
