Ukrainian Film My Happiness To Be Demonstrated Today in Cannes
The 63rd Cannes Film Festival is very significant for Ukraine For the first time in its history Ukraine is represented in the festival’s competition with Serhiy Loznytsia’s film, My Happiness.
The film will be demonstrated today, May 19, 2010, at the festival palace. Beginning at 10:30, local time.
My Happiness is the first full-length film by Serhiy Loznytsia, more known by his documentaries. The movie will compete for Palme d'Or with 19 films, among which are Another Year by Mike Leigh, Outrage by Takeshi Kitano, La princesse de Montpensier by Bertrand Tavernier, Hors-la-loi [Outlaw] by Rachid Bouchareb, Tournée by Mathieu Amalric, and Utomlennye solntsem 2 [Burnt By The Sun 2] by Nikita Mikhalkov. Experts estimate the Ukrainian film’s chances to win one of the major prizes as rather high.
The 63rd Cannes Film Festival is held May 12-23, 2010. In addition to My Happiness, Ukraine is represented by Otar Ioseliani’s Shantrapa [Hoodlums] in the Special program.
Owing to the Ukrainian Cinema Foundation and the support of Nemiroff Company Ukraine for the third year in a row is represented at the Cannes Film Market in Village International by its own pavilion. This year it presents three films: Cholovik moyei vdovy [My Widow’s Husband] by Leonid Horovyts, Dnipro by Oleksandr Shapiro, and Olha Onyshko’s Try istoriyi Halychyny [Three Histories of Halychyna] documentary. Also, the pavilion will present Ukrainian classics and contemporary films on DVD, Ukrainian Films Catalog 2009-2010, etc.
May 15, a receptions-party for Ukrainian cinema was held at La Croisette with the participation of Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Kateryna Yushchenko. The event aroused great interest in the global cinema people: around 500 guests came to the party.
