Kateryna Yushchenko Attends Reception Party for Ukrainian Cinema at La Croisette in Cannes
May 15, 2010, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Kateryna Yushchenko took part in a reception-party for Ukrainian cinema at La Croisette in Cannes. The reception, organized by the Ukrainian Film Foundation and Nemiroff international brand, was also attended by Andriy Khalpakhchi, Director of the Ukrainian Cinema Foundation; Alla Hlus, Director General of Nemiroff Company; Aleksey Guskov, Russian actor; Claude Bonucci, renowned French couturier; directors and representatives of cinema foundations from Sweden, France, Germany, Finland, Morocco, Hungary, and Slovakia; members of the Ukraine 3000 Foundation, Ukrainian Film Foundation, and Nemiroff Company. The event aroused great interest in the global cinema people: around 500 guests came to the party.
Greeting the guests, Mrs. Yushchenko thanked them for their interest to Ukrainian cinema. “We are happy to see that Ukrainian cinema is developing and becomes known globally,” she said. “We are proud that this year, for the first time in Cannes Film Festival history, a Ukrainian film entered the competition program.”
Mrs. Yushchenko described the work of the Ukrainian Film Foundation, which has unveiled a Ukrainian pavilion in Cannes for the third time with the support of Nemiroff Company. Mrs. Kateryna thanked Nemiroff Company for its support to Ukrainian cinema and invited all guests to visit Ukraine’s pavilion and familiarize themselves with films and catalogs it has to offer.
Among other speakers were Head of the Ukrainian Film Foundation Andriy Khalpakhchi and Director General of Nemiroff Company Alla Hlus.
Singer Serhiy Fomenko and accordionist Danylo Denysov performed for the guests their Ukrainian Folk Punk Chanson program. Another appearance was made by singer Kamaliya, who played the main part in My Widow’s Husband film, presented this year at Ukraine’s pavilion.
The reception at La Croisette is the central event of Ukraine’s delegation program at the International Cannes Film Festival. The Ukrainian party carries out a broad range of events at the festival. Ukraine’s pavilion is operating in Village Internacionale, presenting three new films: Cholovik moyei vdovy [My Widow’s Husband], Dnipro, and Try istoriyi Halychyny [Three Histories of Halychyna] documentary. Also, the pavilion will present Ukrainian classics and contemporary films on DVD, Ukrainian Films Catalog 2009-2010, etc.
The 63rd Cannes Film Festival is held May 12-23, 2010. This year’s festival is very significant for Ukraine For the first time in its history Ukraine is represented in the festival’s competition with Serhiy Loznytsia’s film, My Happiness (Ukraine – Germany – the Netherlands) and Otar Ioseliani’s Shantrapa [Hoodlums] (Ukraine – France) in the Special program.
