Festival of Yavoriv Toys to Be Held in Lviv May 8 and 9

May 8 and 9, 2010, the Mystetska Fosa (5 Pidvalna St.) in Lviv will host the Festival of Yavoriv Toys. The event will be part of the Reviving Yavoriv Toys project by Muzey Idey [Ideas Museum] Lviv city public organization, a finalist of the Program to Support Small Cultural and Art Initiatives by Ukraine 3000 Foundation.

In course of the event folk masters, experts in making traditional Yavoriv toys, will give master classes for children. They will tell them about the history and importance of this wooden toys which is more than 400 years old and reveal the secrets of its technology and making. The kids will have a go at painting wooden pieces.

The Mystetska Fosa. Hosting the event, is a permanent display of handicraft in Lviv, founded in 2009. Every Saturday artisans give there master classes.

The Reviving Yavoriv Toys project is aimed at researching and promoting cultural heritage of the Yavoriv region, offering a traditional wooden toy as an alternative for modern plastic ones.
