Kateryna Yushchenko Takes Part in VIII International Competition for Young Pianists in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz Awards Ceremony
April 26, 2010, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Kateryna Yushchenko took part in the awards ceremony of the VIII International Competition for Young Pianists in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz. The event was hosted by the National Philharmonics of Ukraine’s Column Hall.
Since 2005 the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation has been supporting the International Competition for Young Pianists in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz. This year the Foundation has donated UAH 40,000 to the competition’s prize fund.
This year’s Horowitz Memorial was held in the medium and senior age groups. Six prizes were awarded in each group. In the medium group the sixth prize wasn’t awarded, and two young performers were tied for the third place. Among the laureates were representatives of Korea, Ukraine, Georgia, China, Russia, France, and Romania.
The laureates’ diplomas, money prizes, and golden, silver, and bronze medals for the first, second, and third prize winners were bestowed on them by representatives of the jury and sponsors.
Mrs. Yushchenko and head of the jury of the VIII International Competition for Young Pianists in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz, composer, and Rector of the Kyiv Hliyer Music Institute Oleksandr Zlotnyk gave the laureates’ diploma, prize, and golden medal to the Senior Group winner Kim Kho Woon, Korea.
In addition to the competition prizes, the winners received special prizes from the International Charitable Fund of Vladimir Horowitz Competition, European Union of Music Competitions for Youth (EMCY), National Philharmonic of Ukraine, Academy of Arts of Ukraine, Polish Institute in Kyiv, Frederic Chopin University of Music (Poland), etc.
After the ceremony, a concert took place by first prize winners in the senior and intermediate groups with the participation of the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine.
Earlier that day, a press conference was hosted by RBK Ukraine informational agency, dedicated to the results of the competition. Head of the Board of Directors of Ukraine 3000 Foundation Oleksandr Maksymchuk took part in the competition.
The VIII International Competition for Young Pianists in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz was held April 12-26, 2010. 82 contenders from 18 countries were competing for the first prize. The auditions were held in three stages. The jury included pianists from Great Britain, China, Russia, Ukraine, the USA, France, and RSA.
The competition was founded in 1995 to commemorate the pianism legend, Volodymyr Horowitz. Since then, over 1000 young musicians from 32 countries took part competitions in the Horowitz Debut, Junior, Intermediate, and Senior categories.
