France’s Museum Experience: New Vision of Preparing and Displaying Exhibitions Workshop Held in Kyiv
February 10, 2010, the Kyiv Contemporary Arts Museum hosted the France’s Museum Experience: New Vision of Preparing and Displaying Exhibitions workshop.
This year’s workshop continued the cooperation between the Ukrainian Museum Center and French Cultural Center started in 2008. The first French-Ukrainian seminar was held in December 2008 at Bohdan and Varvara Khanenkos’ Museum.
The first speech. Contemporary Art in Louvre, was delivered by Ms. Marie-Laure Bernadac, representing Musée du Louvre, who supervises contemporary art presentation (museum space organization, selecting objects for display, etc.). To create an innovative style of a 21st century museum, since 2003 Louvre presents contemporary art works at its short-term exhibitions, inviting artists to express themselves through various media. Ms. Bernadac said that, to attach a new meaning to the permanent exhibitions, since 200r the new Counterpoint project has been implemented in Louvres, organizing a dialog between the past and the present by placing contemporary artists’ works at various museum departments side by side with old masters’ paintings.
The second speech, Arrange, Display, and Dispose: the Experience of the Lorraine-Metz Region Contemporary Arts Foundation, was presented by Ms. Beatrice Jocce, Director of the Lorraine-Metz Region Contemporary Arts Foundation, a state body supervising museums and museum projects (themed exhibitions, working with visitors on a museum project, popularizing projects, etc.).
The speeches were illustrated with visual materials, through which the speakers explained the principles of their work, relations between the exposition and visitors, a certain trend for dramatization of museum exhibitions, etc.
Around 80 museum workers from Kyiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, Kherson, Khmelnytsky, Zhytomyr, Cherkasy, Berdiansk, etc.
