Kateryna Yushchenko Visits Dnipropetrovsk Yavornytsky History Museum
June 10, 2009, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Kateryna Yushchenko visited Dnipropetrovsk Dmytro Yavornytsky History Museum.
Among other participants of the event were Head of the Dniprodzerzhynsk Oblast State Administration Viktor Bondar Head of the Tourism and Culture Administration of the Dniprodzerzhynsk Oblast State Administration Natalia Pershyna, Head of the Board of Directors of Ukraine 3000 Foundation Oleksandr Maksymchuk, representatives of local authorities and Ukraine 3000 Foundation.
Accompanied by museum director Nadiya Kapustina, the guests took a tour of the museum. They visited the White Hall, displaying the In All Sincerity exhibition, and the patio with its stone sculptures collection. Mrs. Yushchenko also viewed the This Cannot Happen Again exhibition, dedicated to the memory of the victims of Holodomor and political repression.
Mrs. Kateryna signed the distinguished visitors’ book.
The staff of Dmytro Yavornytsky History Museum presented Mrs. Yushchenko with a set of books for the Museum Library.
This year Dmytro Yavornytsky History Museum celebrates its 160th anniversary. It displays around 7,000 exhibits, telling the story of the region from ancient time to the mid-twentieth century. Among them are outstanding rarities, e.g. world famous Kernosovka idol of the third millennium B.C. and a pharaoh statue with Ramses the Sixth name on it. At present, the museum is not only a leading center popularizing the national cultural heritage but also a powerful center of the country’s museum business development. In the last years the museum has become a testing ground for designing and implementing innovative museum technologies. In part, it has introduced a new for Ukraine practice of national museum festivals and is elaborating a modern methodical base on various issues related to museum work.
The museum has repeatedly become laureate of actions organized by Ukraine 3000 Foundation. It is a two-times prize winner of the Museum Event of the Year all-Ukrainian action: first place in 2006 (for the Museum Festival project, 2005) and third place in 2009 (for the Museum Festival project, 2008). The museum’s worker Valentyna Lazebnyk took part in the Museum Workers Support Program for 2006-2007. In March-June 2009, the museum hosted the Rift through Life exhibition (joint project by Ukraine 3000 Foundation and Rheinland District Alliance, Germany).
Kateryna Yushchenko and Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation members are on a one-day working trip to Dnipropetrovsk oblast. Earlier they have visited Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital, passing over two artificial lungs ventilation machines together with Procter & Gamble Ukraine Director for Public Relations Vitaly Prokopenko.
