Ukraine 3000 Foundation Presents Ukrainian Translation of The Migration Period: The History of the Restless Fourth and Fifth Century Period

May 26, 2009, the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation presented a new publication, the Ukrainian translation of The Migration Period: The History of the Restless Fourth and Fifth Century Period by renowned European archeologist Prof. Magdalena Mączyńska.

The presentation took place at the awards ceremony of the Museum Event of the Year Fourth All-Ukrainian Action and Fifth Annual Program to Support Museum Workers in 2009-2010.

The book was published within the framework of the Museum Library joint program by the Ukrainian Center for Museum Development and Ukraine 3000 Foundation, supported by the Polish Institute in Kyiv and International Renaissance Foundation.

Presenting the book, Head of the Board of Directors of the Ukrainian Center for Museum Development Oleksiy Kopytko said that there was a long-standing need for such books in Ukraine. “Upon starting the Museum Library program, we had set as one of its key objectives publishing leading foreign scholars’ works in Ukrainian,” he said. “The Migration Period… will be the first portent in this process.” Experts believe that the Ukrainian edition is one of the best compared to the European ones, being colored, supplied with three times more illustrations, and including the latest developments in the field.

Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Kateryna Yushchenko handed over the first copy of the book to Jerzy Onuch, Director of Polish Institute in Kyiv and Counselor with the Embassy of the Polish Republic in Ukraine. Accepting the gift, Mr. Onuch said that the Polish Institute intended to contribute into the prize fund of the Ukraine 3000 Foundation’s museum-related actions.

Other copies were given to International Renaissance Foundation representative Taras Luty, the publication’s science editor Maksym Levada, collector Oleksiy Sheremetyev. Another copy was sent to Vahig Aliev, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Mandarin Plaza public corporation.

Magdalena Mączyńska’s The Migration Period: The History of the Restless Fourth and Fifth Century Period is dedicated to one of the most interesting and momentous periods in Europe’s history, the Great Migration. The author deals with archeological data, written sources, and integrates her colleagues’ experience.

At present, Ukraine lacks research of such level, giving a detailed and well-grounded account of this historical period in a popular form. The book can be of use for specialists, students, and anyone interested in the mysteries of the past.

The Ukrainian translation of the book was published in 2009 by Sofiya A Publishing House. Translators – Iryna Tryzna and Maksym Levada, Science Editor – Maksym Levada.

Pressrun – 2000 copies, 500 of them to be distributed among libraries, museums, and educational institutions in Ukraine.
