Fifth Nadiya Children’s Poetry Competition Held in Kyiv
May 13, 2009, Lesya Ukrayinka Museum hosted the Fifth Nadiya [Hope] Children’s Poetry Competition finals with the support of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation.
The Nadiya competition was founded by the Museum of Renowned Ukraine’s Culture Figures Lesia Ukrayinka, Mykola Lysenko, Panas Myrny, Panas Saksahansky, and Mykhaylo Starytsky in 2001 to celebrate Lesia Ukrayinka’s 130th anniversary.
The competition involves students of secondary schools, high schools, lyceums, and colleges in Kyiv and suburbs in three age categories: 6-10, 11-14 and 15-18. Theme isn’t specified. Rhymes, excerpts from poems, translations of classical poetry, fables, etc. were admitted to the competition.
This year’s jury members were renowned word-painters Vasyl Herasymyuk (head of the jury), Iryna Boyko, Borys Chip, Sofiya Maydanska, and the Museum director Nataliya Terekhova.
The soiree featured best works by the competition winners and finalists, rendered by their authors. The Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation awarded the winners with prizes.
