Ukraine 3000 Fund and Molodist International Film Festival Announce the Creation of the Ukrainian Film Foundation
October 25, 2007, Advisor to Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Andriy Myroshnichenko and Art Director of the Molodist International Film Festival and member of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 Fund Andriy Khalpakhchi announced the creation of the Ukrainian Film Foundation aimed at promoting the Ukrainian cinema globally. The event took place at a press conference with the participation of Mrs. Rita Hegebor, head of the Village Internacionale, organizing and holding the Cannes Film Market.
Addressing the journalists, Mr. Myroshnichenko described major objectives and plans of the Ukrainian Film Foundation: creating a Ukrainian films catalogue, presenting best Ukrainian films at the international festivals, and promoting the Ukrainian cinema globally. He said that the idea of the Ukrainian Film Foundation had arose this May, when Mrs. Yushchenko and other Ukraine 3000 Fund members visited the Cannes Festival and Film Market, where Mrs. Hegebor was their guide. Mr. Myroshnichenko also said that Mr. Khalpakhchi was appointed Head of the Ukrainian Film Foundation.
Mr. Khalpakhchi said that creating the foundation was a very timely project. A need for such structure has long evolved, but the organizers had decided to announce its creation precisely at the Molodist festival, visited by many cinema professionals and cinema lovers from Ukraine and abroad.
Ms. Hegebor described the work of similar organizations in Belgium and France, their major tasks and challenges they face.
The press conference participants also answered numerous questions from the journalists.
The Ukraine 3000 Fund has been a partner of the Molodist International Film Festival for many years. Starting from 2003, the Fund has established the For the Development of the National Cinema award as part of the festival. Its first laureate was film director Roman Blayan, in 2004 it went to film director Kira Muratova, in 2005 – actress Larysa Kadochnykova, and in 2006 – founder and director of the Filmotekhnik Compoany Anatoly Kokush.
