Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund and Security Service of Ukraine Present the Declassified Memory: Manmade Famine of 1932-1933 in Ukraine through GPU-NKVD Documents Book
August 27, 2007, a round table titled Manmade Famine of 1932-1933 and Political Repression in Ukraine through Security Service of Ukraine Archive Documents was held at the Security Service of Ukraine headquarters. Head of the Board of Directors of the Ukraine 3000 Fund Oleksandr Maksymchuk, Acting SSU Head Valentyn Nalyvaychenko, historians, jurists, staff members of the Ukrainian National Memory Institute, representatives of non-governmental organizations and Ukrainian organizations abroad were present at the round table.
In course of this event, the Declassified Memory: Manmade Famine of 1932-1933 in Ukraine through GPU-NKVD Documents collection was presented. This publication has become the first step in the Ukraine 3000 Fund – SSU cooperation within the framework of the Memorandum signed in October 2006.
Opening the session, Mr. Nalyvaychenko said that there shouldn’t be any secrets, concealment, or distortions left regarding the Holodomor. “The Ukrainian secret service reveals all documents on this subject in its disposal for the Ukrainian public and global community and invites researchers, historians, and everybody caring to cooperate,” he said.
In his speech, Mr. Maksymchuk said that the Declassified Memory is one of the five books published by the Fund as part of its History Lessons: Holodomor Manmade Famine of 1932-1933 program. “The Fund sees as its goal providing support in researching this subject and popularizing this information,” Mr. Maksymchuk said.
The book was prepared by SSU archive, Ukraine 3000 Fund, Ukrainian National Memory Institute representatives, scholars, etc. The book contains scholarly papers, documents, including photos, diaries, and letters, along with materials from the Declassified Memory exhibition demonstrated in Ukraine’s regions.
The Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund intends to distribute all its publications among university libraries in all Ukraine’s oblasts free of charge.
