Ukraine 3000 Fund Conducts Awards Ceremony of the Museum Event of the Year Second All-Ukrainian Action



May 24, 2007, at 4:30 p.m., the Bohdan and Varvara Khanenko Arts Museum hosted the awards ceremony of the Museum Event of the Year Second All-Ukrainian Action.

Among the participants of the ceremony were Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Kateryna Yushchenko, Deputy Minister for Culture and Tourism Olha Shokalo-Bench, Director of the Public Relations Department of the National Television Company of Ukraine Liliya Kovetska, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Mandarin Plaza Closed Corporation Vagif Aliyev, Head of the Ukrainian Center for Museum Development Oleksiy Kopytko, museum workers, state and public figures.

Addressing the audience, Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko said that supporting museums is one of the Ukraine 3000 Fund’s priorities in the sphere of culture. “We are proud that our projects have been recognized by the museum community and turned into a tradition. Now we can appraise the attainments of single professionals and museum teams on an annual basis. Such appraisal not only furthers their professional development but also allows seeing clearly the fantastic job the staff of hundreds of Ukrainian museums carries out day after day,” she said.

The best museum events in 2006 were:

  • Eastern Collection display at the Bohdan and Varvara Khanenko Arts Museum (first prize, UAH 25,000);
  • Niko Pirosmanishvili one-man show at the National Museum of the Arts (second prize, UAH 15,000;
  • The opening of the Mykhaylo Hrushevsky Memorial Museum (third prize, UAH 10,000).

Mrs. Yushchenko awarded the winners of the Museum Event of the Year Second All-Ukrainian Action with diplomas, and Mr. Aliyev – with money certificates.

Special awards by the Organizing Committee were also awarded. They went to the PinchukArtCentre Contemporary Arts Center in the Flash of the Year nomination, the Ukrainian translation of Friedrich Waidacher’s Handbuch der Allgemeinen Museologie in the Publication of the Year nomination, and opening the renewed exposition at the Taras Shevchenko National Museum in the Return of the Year nomination.

Besides, Mr. Kopytko announced the names of the annual Program to Support Museum Workers winners:

  • Olha Abolmasova, Svitlovodsk Local History Museum;
  • Danuta Bilavych, Solomiya Krushelnytska Lviv Musical and Memorial Museum;
  • Olena Hlyboka, Donetsk Oblast Local History Museum;
  • Tetiana Zhurunova, Vinnytsia Oblast Local History Museum;
  • Liliya Kazantseva, Astronomy Museum at the Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University;
  • Mykola Kokshaykin, Shostka State Local History Museum;
  • Ivan Polyniaka, Skelia Military and Historical Museum, Korosten, Zhytomyr Oblast;
  • Kateryna Chuyeva, Bohdan and Varvara Khanenko Arts Museum.

The Museum Event of the Year is a joint project by the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund, Ukrainian Center for Museum Development, and National Television Company of Ukraine. It is an annual competition celebrating most important, significant, and high-profile events in the Ukrainian museums sphere, exerting the biggest influence on the attitude to museums in the community.

This year, forty museum events in various Ukraine’s regions competed for these awards. The winners were selected through voting by over 70 experts, among who were journalists, museum workers, people’s deputies, public figures, etc.

The prize fund of the action amount UAH 50,000. For the second year in a row, the action was sponsored by Mandarin Plaza Closed Corporation.

The Program to Support Museum Workers is designed for staff members, managers, researchers, and creative workers of any Ukrainian museum, irrespective of its status, type, subordination, owner, and other characteristics The Program’s major goal is offer beneficial aid to the professionals who make their museum a central piece of the cultural space in their region, serving the society and popularizing the cultural heritage preserved in their museum.
 
The winners of this year’s program will receive from Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund and Ukrainian Center for Museum Development financial aid of 700 hryvnias on a monthly basis.
