Museum Workers Support Program Started for 2007-2008

The Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund and Ukrainian Center for Museum Development announce the start of the annual Museum Workers Support Program.

The Program’s major goal for 2007-2008 is offer beneficial aid to the professionals who make their museum a central piece of the cultural space in their region, serving the society and popularizing the cultural heritage preserved in their museum.

The Program’s Goals:

  • stimulate museum workers to work actively in preserving, studying, and presenting the museum collections;
  • improve the standing and public role of the museum workers;
  • popularize progressive experience in museum management and implementing separate museum projects;
  • create favorable conditions for young professionals to join the museums;
  • create conditions for creativity in the museum sphere.

Staff members, managers, researchers, and creative workers of any Ukrainian museum, irrespective of its status, type, subordination, owner, and other characteristics, can apply for the Program.

To apply, the candidate has to send by mail or personally present to the Fund the documents demonstrating the results of his/her work in 2006.

The deadline for applications is April 20, 2007, at 5 p.m. Kyiv time.

By a decision of the Fund’s Board of Directors, based upon the recommendations of its Public Council on the Center for Museum Development Program, a charitable stipend will be awarded to the winner, to be paid during six months (from June to November 2007) in six monthly UAH 700 (roughly $140) tranches. The beneficial aid can be awarded again, in the same amount, if during the first stage the recipient is consistently working to increase the influence of his/her museum in the region and promote the museum development as a whole.

The Program results and list of the aid recipients will be published on May 18, 2007 (the International Museum Day).

More details, as well as application form for obtaining beneficial aid by the Museum Workers Support Program for 2007-2008, can be found at the Ukraine’s Museum Space website.

Last year, the Fund and the Ukrainian Center for Museum Development for the second time implemented the Museum Workers Support Program. Its 92 participants represented 23 of Ukraine’s regions. Due to this program, fourteen museum workers receive monthly aid of UAH 300 (roughly $60) during one year. Interviews with the stipend holders demonstrated that most of them spend extra money for trips, purchasing books, and other expenditures related to their professional growth. By the results of this program, a number of museums obtained special beneficial aid for participation in international conferences, holding certain events, etc.
