Ukraine 3000 Foundation Members Visit Action Territory Youth Camp

August 19, 2010, members of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation visited the Action Territory international youth camp, organized as part of the Social Integration of and Instilling Public Responsibility in Young Ukrainians project by the United Nations Development Program in Ukraine in cooperation with Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation, United Nations Volunteer Program, Intel Corporation, All-Ukrainian Alternative-B Youth Cooperation Organization, and other youth organizations.

The participants of the camp, held at Borovytsia village, Cherkasy oblast, August 14-21, were over fifty young people, among who were international volunteers from the US, the Netherlands, Poland, and South Korea.

In course of the camp’s work, young people cleaned up the grounds of the Borovytsia House of Culture, washed the windows, cleaned the insides of the house, and prepared designs for stained glass windows. The House of Culture is an important place for the villagers, hosting various events for young people and marriage registration.

The participants also cleaned up the local beach, painted the fence around local kindergarten, and straightened up Pavliuk’s Grave (a barrow named after renowned Cossack commander).

The camp featured trainings on project management and fundraising. The coaches taught the camp participants and local youngsters how to prepare a project, formulate goal and task, and attract investors. After the training the participants got a chance to practice in preparing projects, which had been partly implemented in Borovytsia.

A press conference was held, following the Action Territory international youth camp. International project manager Wendy Shapiro and coordinator with United Nations Volunteer Program in Ukraine Giovanni Mozarelli spoke about the projects aims and goals and presented the results.

Ukraine 3000 Foundation representative Orest Mykyta presented the Foundation’s youth and educational projects, in part, Doing Good Starts with You and Ukraine’s Innovative Intellect. A proposal came up to combine efforts with the camp organizers and local community to support socially active young people and regional philanthropic initiatives.
