Winners of Third Doing Good Starts with You Charitable Projects Competition Awarded

May 20, 2010, Kyiv Teacher’s House hosted the Doing Good Starts with You National Forum, the final part of Third Doing Good Starts with You Charitable Projects Competition held by Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation.

Among the participants of the session were Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Kateryna Yushchenko, President of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences Vasyl Kremin, Director of Ukraine’s Development Foundation Anatoly Zabolotny, Advisor to the Minister of Ukraine for Family, Youth, and Sports cum President of the Gifted Children – Ukraine’s Future Charitable Foundation Vlada Prokayeva, Director for Educational Programs of Intel Corporation Ukrainian office Tetiana Nanayeva, representatives of the authorities, educational and academic circles, Ukrainian and international charitable foundations, public organizations experienced in youth charitable activities, and children’s groups – participants and winners of the Third Doing Good Starts with You Charitable Projects Competition. In total, around 350 people were present.

The plenary session was opened by Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Kateryna Yushchenko. She described to the young philanthropists the mechanisms of Ukraine 3000 Foundation’s work and shared her experience in implementing charitable programs.

Mrs. Kateryna said that, in her view, Doing Good Starts with You project is the Foundation’s most efficient. “The first sign of its efficiency is the great number of participants,” she said, quoting this years’ competition statistics: 557 charitable projects were submitted, with 459 selected for moving into the second stage. Mrs. Yushchenko also mentioned the wide range of charitable activities conducted by school and college students. “You work is even more important because you do it on a local level,” she said. “You know what your town needs most, and you give help.”

“Taking part in our competition, you learn how to do good, acquiring the culture of philanthropy,” Mrs. Yushchenko said. “You can see how satisfying good deeds can be. You don’t complain on problems – you think how to solve them. You have already found your self-actualization in it, and you can’t stop doing good.”

“Keep up with your good work,” Mrs. Kateryna called upon the Forum participants, “Believe in God, support your elders, build up the country your grandparents dreamed about. The main thing is not the award but what you have done and experienced. You are changing the society; you are making the world better.”

Among other speakers were President of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences Vasyl Kremin, Head of the Programs and Methods Sector at the Ministry of Education of Ukraine Halyna Labaychuk. Minister of Ukraine for Family, Youth, and Sports Ravil Safiullin sent his greetings to the Forum participants.

After the official part the awards ceremony for winners and laureates of the Third Doing Good Starts with You Charitable Projects Competition was held. This year winners were selected in two nominations: children’s and junior groups. Children’s projects, in their turn, were divided into three areas: social, cultural, and ecologic.
