Kateryna Yushchenko Visits Children’s Clinical Hospital at the Ministry of Health Care of the Crimea

August 6, 2008, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Kateryna Yushchenko visited the Children’s Clinical Hospital at the Ministry of Health Care of the Crimea. Among other participants of the event were Head of the Supreme Council of the Crimea Anatoly Hrytsenko, Head Otolaryngologist with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine Anatoly Kosakivsky, Procter & Gamble Ukraine Director for Public Relations Vitaly Prokopenko, and Director of the Ukraine 3000 Foundation Medical programs Department Vira Pavliuk.

Mrs. Yushchenko toured the hospital’s surgery block, hematology department, and newborn’s ICU. She also took part in a press conference on the Ukraine 3000 Foundation and Procter & Gamble joint project aimed at helping children with impaired hearing.

Within the framework of the said project, the Children’s Clinical Hospital at the Ministry of Health Care of the Crimea received equipment for hearing defects diagnostics in children: a diagnostic system for registering brainstem auditory evoked potential, diagnostic audiometer, and extended-range impedance audiomete to the total cost of almost UAH 218,000.

At the press conference Mrs. Yushchenko said, “Today there is almost half a million children with impaired hearing in Ukraine. One baby in every 1,000 is born deaf. However, tilemly diagnostics and treatment can decrease the disablement rate considerably. I’m pleased that the equipment we have brought today to the hospital will bring many Crimean children back to health.” Mrs. Yushchenko thanked Procter & Gamble Company for their support in implementing this important project.

At the hospital, Mrs. Yushchenko passed over hearing aids, books, and toys to 13 Crimean children.

The Clinical Hospital at the Ministry of Health Care of the Crimea is a member of Ukraine 3000 Foundation’s Hospital to Hospital program. During 2006-2007, the hospital has received from the Foundation medicines and equipment to the total of UAH 427,000.
