Future Staff Members of the Children’s Hospital of the Future to Undergo Express Training Courses at Cedars Sinai Medical Center



June 27, 2008, the third teleconference was held between the Children’s Hospital of the Future Charitable Foundation members, Ukrainian experts, and representatives of Cedars Sinai Medical Center (USA).

Among the participants of the event, hosted by the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation, were Chief Research Fellow with the Institute of Pediatrics, Obstetrics, and Gynecology at AMS of Ukraine Yuliya Davydova, leading research fellow with IPOG neonatologist Tetiana Kurylina, leading expert on toxicology and emergency medical aid with the Ministry for Healthcare of Ukraine Borys Sheyman, Head of the Children’s Onco-Gematology and Marrow Transplantation Center at the OKHMATDIT Hospital Svitlana Donska, Head of the Marrow Transplantation Unit at the Children’s Onco-Gematology and Marrow Transplantation Center at the OKHMATDIT Hospital Oleh Ryzhak, and representative of the Children’s Hospital of the Future Charitable Foundation Taras Tkachuk. Cedars Sinai was represented by Dr. Charles F. Simmons, Jr., Chairman of the Department of Pediatric, Dr. Kimberly Gregory, Vice Chair, Women’s Health Care, Dr. Christopher Zarembinski, Head of the Pain Center, Dr. Olena Reganyuk, Facilitator, Carlos Castellon, Executive Assistant to Dr. Charles F. Simmons, Jr., and Dan Malaniak, liaison between Ukraine 3000 & CSMC.

The subject of the conference was the plans for training Ukrainian professionals for the All-Ukrainian Center to Protect Mother's and Children's Health, a.k.a. Children's Hospital of the Future. In part, the parties discussed one-three weeks trainings for multidiscipline teams of pediatricians, neonatologists, obstetricians, gynecologists, IC specialists, and managers. Ukrainian experts prepared lists of issues which, in their opinion, should be included into the training curriculums in each area.

The participants agreed to set the date of the first Ukrainian team to arrive to CSMC for a pilot training at the next conference group conduct more conferences to discuss concrete training schedules and the date of the first Ukrainian team’s trip to CSMC.

The Cedars Sinai Medical Center is one of the biggest and oldest patient care institutions in the US West. Its staff is over 12,000 people, providing treatment to over 300,000 patients per year.

This was the third teleconference between Ukrainian professionals and the Cedars Sinai Medical Center representatives. The previous was held April 10, 2008.
