June 18, 2008, the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation passed over medical equipment to the Institute for Pediatrics, Obstetrics, and Gynecology at the AMS of Ukraine and OKHMATDYT Ukrainian Children’s Specialized Hospital.
Among the participants of the event, hosted by IPOG, were Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Kateryna Yushchenko, Deputy Minister of Health Care Vsyl Lazoryshynets, President of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine Oleksandr Vozianov, Director General of the OKHMATDYT Ukrainian Children’s Specialized Hospital Yuri Hladush, Director of the Institute for Pediatrics, Obstetrics, and Gynecology at the AMS of Ukraine Yuri Antipkin, Deputy Head of the Mothers’ and Children’s Health Protection Administration at the Ministry of Health Care Valentyna Pedan, Adviser to Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Andriy Myroshnichenko, and Ukraine 3000 Foundation representatives.
Mrs. Yushchenko greeted the medical workers with their professional holiday, the Day of Medical Worker. “Your profession is one of the noblest, since you help us and our children to survive,” she said. “I’m proud that the issues of healthcare for mothers and children are now a priority not only for individual mothers or families, but for the state, Ministry of Health Care, and charitable organizations. I dream about the day when all medical workers in our country will feel that their profession is a prestigious one, that they have decent salaries, work in decent conditions, and young people are dreaming about medical career.”
After that, Mrs. Yushchenko delivered certificates for the equipment to Director General of the OKHMATDYT Ukrainian Children’s Specialized Hospital Yuri Hladush and Director of the Institute for Pediatrics, Obstetrics, and Gynecology at the AMS of Ukraine Yuri Antipkin.
Owing to the Ukraine 3000 Foundation’s efforts, the Institute for Pediatrics, Obstetrics, and Gynecology received a modern high-quality ALV apparatus to the cost of UAH 168,000, and the OKHMATDYT Ukrainian Children’s Specialized Hospital – a diagnostic EEG system for newborns to the cost of UAH 176,750.
Medical equipment for OKHMATDYT and IPOG was purchased after an open bid competition, held by the Ukraine 3000 Foundation May 21 – June 2, 2008. The equipment has already been installed and is ready to service the first patients.
The guests also took a tour of the Institute for Pediatrics, Obstetrics, and Gynecology. They visited the maternity ward of the obstetrics pathology unit and the newborn’s ICU and talked to the future moms and the IPOPG staff.
The Institute for Pediatrics, Obstetrics, and Gynecology at the AMS of Ukraine, founded in 1929, is Ukraine’s chief scientific and research institution in the area of mothers’ and children’s health protection. From the very first days, the Institute has been conducting a great research, treatment, and prevention work. At present, it unites obstetric, gynecologic, and pediatric hospitals to the total bed capacity of 500. Around 1,500 staff members work at the Institute. Every year, women and children from all Ukraine’s regions receive hospital treatment (around 7,000 patients) and consultative services (around 80,000) at the IPOG.
The OKHMATDYT Ukrainian Children’s Specialized Hospital was founded in December 1890 by renowned Ukrainian entrepreneur and philanthropist Mykola Tereshchenko as a hospital for poor people for 50 beds. In all 110 years of its history, the hospital was among the major medical institutions rendering free medical aid to residents of Kyiv and all Ukraine. Up to 7,000 surgeries are performed every year at the four hospital’s units.
OKHMATDYT’s Children’s Onco-Hematology and Marrow Transplantation Center is a member of Ukraine 3000 Foundation’s Hospital to Hospital program. Within its framework, it had received UAH 622,605.66 in medical equipment, medicines, toys, and books in 2005-2007.
