Vira Pavliuk Meets with Emory University of Atlanta School of Medicine Faculty
February 19, 2008 Head of the Board of Directors of the Children's Hospital of the Future Charitable Fund Vira Pavliuk and Deputy Minister of Healthcare of Ukraine Vasyl Lazoryshynets visited the Emory University of Atlanta School of Medicine.
Ms. Pavliuk and Mr. Lazoryshynets visited one of the University’s educational centers where future doctors perfect their skills in diagnosing and emergency aid. The center’s equipment simulates various pathologies, on which students have to take correct medical decisions.
The Ukrainian experts also met with Professor of Medicine and Neurology H. Kenneth Walker and the School of Medicine faculty and administration. Mr. Lazoryshynets spoke about the priorities of the Ministry for Healthcare of Ukraine, in part, in medical education and trainings, and the Ministry’s international programs.
Ms. Pavliuk, in her turn, described the Ukraine 3000 Fund’s medical programs and projects, in part, the Children's Hospital of the Future and Hospital to Hospital programs. The Emory University demonstrated its interest in participating in the Children's Hospital of the Future project and suggested a number of options for cooperation, in part, in conducting trainings for its staff.
The Emory University has a longstanding and successful experience of partnership with Georgia. Head of the Expert Group Dr. Walker is a Honorary Citizen of Georgia.
Ukraine 3000 Fund representatives, headed by Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Kateryna Yushchenko, are staying in the United States for a working visit. Earlier they met with President and CEO of the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions Lawrence McAndrews and US Secretary of Health and Human Services Michael Leavitt. Mrs. Yushchenko also attended the memorial service for Lev Dobriansky and met with Georgetown University President Dr. John DeGioia and the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America leaders and Ukrainian community representatives.
