Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Helds the First All-Ukrainian Meeting of the Hospital to Hospital Program Members of Board of Trustees

October 19, 2007, the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund has held the First All-Ukrainian Meeting of the Hospital to Hospital Program Members of Board of Trustees. The event, taking place at the Symphony Conference Hall of the Opera Hotel, had gathered over 50 most active representatives of the Board of Trustees at the Hospital to Hospital Program member hospitals who had made a considerable contribution for the hospitals.

The First All-Ukrainian Meeting of the Hospital to Hospital Program Members of Board of Trustees was organized for the discussion of the major results of the Boards’ work and their plans for the future. Among its participants were Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Kateryna Yushchenko, members of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 Fund, representatives of the Children’s Hospital of the Future Charitable Fund Supervisory Board, biggest contributors of the Hospital to Hospital program, and other honorable guests.

Addressing the audience, Mrs. Yushchenko described the Hospital to Hospital program, its history and results achieved in the two years of its work. She said that during this period the Ukraine 3000 Fund and its partners had provided beneficial aid to hospitals to the amount of approximately UAH 25,000,000. These funds were allotted for repairs at the hospitals, purchasing necessary medical equipment, and specialists’ training abroad.

Mrs. Yushchenko also spoke about the efficiency of Boards of Trustees in Western hospitals, adding that being a member of a board of trustees is being considered a very honorable position in the West.

“Inviting you to First All-Ukrainian Meeting of the Hospital to Hospital Program Members of Board of Trustees, we asked the hospitals’ management to provide us with brief information of your Booards’ work. We wanted to see your first results and hear about your plans. We were happy to see that most of the Boards work efficiently and provide considerable support to the hospitals,” Mrs. Yushchenko said, adding that she hoped the Boards of Trustees would work even more actively after that meeting.

“We are planning that the Ukraine 3000 Fund staff and members of its Supervisory Board will take part in the events organized by the Boards of Trustees,” Mrs. Kateryna said. “We realize that organizing the work of the Board of Trustees properly is in no way a simple task for us all. However, we believe that in time this kind of activity will become normal for all Ukraine’s businesspeople.”

Representatives of the Children’s Hospital of the Future Charitable Fund Supervisory Board, People’s Deputy of Ukraine, 5th convocation, Head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Health Care Tetiana Bakhteyeva and Head of the Board of Directors of the Ukraine’s Development Charitable Fund Natalia Izosymova, also addressed the audience along with doctors, members of the Boards of Trustees, charitable funds representatives, and philanthropists.

A presentation of the Hospital to Hospital website, which is to become the major source for covering the Boards of Trustees’ work, also took place at the meeting.

Also, another Ukraine 3000 Fund’s project, Art Therapy at Children’s Hospitals, was officially presented.

The Board of Trustees is a non-governmental consultative body created at a hospital to carry out public control over its work. Through the council mechanism, the community can implement its initiatives to optimize funds draft to solve the region’s urgent problems, in part, in the area of pediatrics. Also, the Board of Trustees can become a forum for the discussion of urgent medical issues and seeking ways to solve them.

Considering the constant growth of the number of philanthropists making considerable contributions into the Hospital to Hospital program, and also to introduce European standards and developed countries’ experience into the Ukrainian medicine, in September 2006 the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund initiated the creation of the Boards of Trustees at children’s hospitals, members of the Hospital to Hospital program. From September 29, 2006, till March 1, 2007, the initiative had been supported by all program members. In total, 22 Boards have been created. Earlier, June 1, 2006, the Kremenchuk City Children’s Hospital created a Board of Trustees on its own intiative.

Members of the Boards are hospitals’ representatives, independent medical workers (medical universities’ pediatrics chairs’ staff, oblast head pediatricians, etc.), public figures, and representatives of the local authorities, business, mass media, and Ukraine 3000 Fund.
