Members of Ukraine 3000 Fund Visit Zakarpattia Oblast Children’s Hospital
September 20, 2007, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Kateryna Yushchenko and Fund’s representatives visited the Zakarpattia Oblast Children’s Hospital in Mukachevo. Among the participants of the visit were Head of the Zakarpattia Oblast State Administration Oleh Havashi, Head of the Health Care Administration Mykhaylo Turianchyk, Head of the Board of Directors of the Ukraine 3000 Fund Oleksandr Maksymchuk, Director of the Fund’s Medical Programs Vira Pavliuk, Head of the hospital’s Board of Trustees Oksana Baloha, representatives of the local authorities and Ukraine 3000 Fund.
Accompanied by Chief Physician Yelizaveta Birov, the guests took a tour of the hospital, visiting, in part, the Premature Children’s Unit. Mrs. Kateryna had a brief meeting with the medical staff and visited the wards, talking to the little patients and their parents.
Mrs. Yushchenko handed over to Dr. Birov a certificate for medical equipment: an AV apparatus, portable X-Ray device with an electronic-optical amplifier, a USD device, three infusomats, electroneuromiographer, and 15 children’s beds. This equipment has already been installed at the hospital. Its total cost is over UAH 1,000,000. Besides, Mrs. Kateryna donated to the hospital children’s books and toys.
Mrs. Yushchenko and Ukraine 3000 Fund members also visited the Rosynka Rehabilitation Center for Children with Organic Lesions of the Central Nervous System. At the Center they were presented the European Commission’s program on working out and implementing a crossborder program for social and medical rehabilitation of children from national minorities and socially unprotected groups. The project is aimed at introducing the Petö method.
Later Mrs. Kateryna took part in the Zakarpattia Oblast Children’s Hospital Board of Trustees meeting.
The Zakarpattia Oblast Children’s Hospital, member of the Ukraine 3000 Fund’s Hospital to Hospital program, was created in 1950 on the basis of the Lelents orphanage founded in 1905. The hospital consists of a day patients’ clinic, Mukacheve city children’s consultative center, hospital, and Rosynka Rehabilitation Center for Children with Organic Lesions of the Central Nervous System. Its total bed capacity is 417. The clinic can receive 480 patients per one shift. Around 130 doctors and 320 nurses work at the hospital.
The hospital cooperates on a permanent or one-time basis with humanitarian organizations in Austria, Germany, the US, the Netherlands, France, Czech Republic, and Hungary, obtaining resources (equipment, medicines, instruments, etc.) and sending the hospital’s doctors for training at universities and clinics in the US, the Netherlands, Austria, and Hungary.
Within the framework of the Hospital to Hospital program the Zakarpattia Oblast Children’s Hospital has received charitable aid from Ukraine Ukraine 3000 Fund in the form of medical equipment, medicines, books, and toys, with the total cost UAH 412 459. In part, Ukraine 3000 Fund and Procter & Gamble Ukraine’s a joint action brought the hospital a modern reanimobile in October 2005. Besides, in September 2006 Chief Physician Yelizaveta Birov took part in an educational tour of the US patient care institutions.
