Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Donates Modern Equipment for the Neonatology Cneter at the Lviv City Communal Children’s Hospital

September 13, 2007, representatives of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund headed by the Fund’s Supervisory Board Head Kateryna Yushchenko visited the Lviv City Communal Children’s Hospital.

Among other participants of the event were Head of the Lviv Oblast State Administration Petro Oliynyk, Head of the Lviv Oblast Council Myroslav Senyk, Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovy, Head of the Chief Administration for Health Care at the Oblast State Administration Petro Fedun, co-owner of the Prospera Group Management Company Ltd. Roman Koziy, members of the hospital’s Board of Trustees led by Head of the Lviv Bank Board of Directors Mykola Vozniuk, and representatives of the local authorities and Ukraine 3000 Fund.

Accompanied by Chief Physician Dmyto Kvit, the guests took a tour of the Neonatology Center opened a year ago, in September 2006. At present, it is equipped with two reanimation sets and four mechanical newborns’ scales passed over to the Center by Ukraine 3000 Fund. This equipment with total costs over UAH 150,000 was purchased with the receipts from Oleksandr Ponomariov’s Beneficial Ball.

Mrs. Yushchenko held a brief meeting with the hospital staff. She also visited the wards, talking to the little patients and their parents and presenting them with Lullabies CDs.

On behalf of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund, Mrs. Yushchenko gave Dr. Kvit a certificate for purchasing four infant incubators. This equipment had already been installed at the Neonatology Center. Its total costs are UAH 200,000. Purchasing the incubators has become possible owing to the Prospera Group Management Company, allotting money for this purpose. Mrs. Kateryna also donated to the hospital children’s books and toys.

Addressing those present, Mrs. Yushchenko said that the hospital was among the best and most active participants of the Hospital to Hospital program. She emphasized the fact that the Ukraine 3000 Fund is extremely satisfied with the results of its cooperation with this hospital. “It was so nice to come here after this year and see the changes to the better. I see big improvements in terms of both the equipment and cooperation with local businesses,” she said.

Dr. Kvit thanked for the equipment and said that the reanimation sets, donated last year, had already helped saving dozens of children’s lives. In his words, this equipment is vitally important for any children’s hospital, especially now, when it is possible to save children weighing under 500 grams. This equipment allows providing necessary aid to such children.

In his turn, Mr. Koziy said that this mission was extremely important and pleasing for all Prospera Group Company staff members and personally for him. He said that the company had already carried out a series of charitable projects, but the cooperation with Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund allowed to channel the money where it was most needed: for saving children’s lives.

Mr. Vozniuk said in his speech that in the one year since founding the Board of Trustees a series of successful initiatives had been carried out together with the city authorities. In part, UAH 500,000 was allotted for hospital refurbishing, obtained as a municipal loan.

The Lviv City Children’s Community Hospital is member of the Ukraine 3000 Fund’s Hospital to Hospital Program. It was founded in February 1993. Its bed capacity is 400. Around 140 doctors and 330 paramedics work at the hospital. The hospital has a great experience of participation in international medical programs. It has cooperated with Poland, Germany, Switzerland and the US.

Within the framework of the Hospital to Hospital Program, in 2006-2007 the Fund has passed over to the hospital medical equipment and books with total costs of around UAH 200,000. In part, the hospital received cardio equipment as part of the Ukraine 3000 Fund and McDonalds Ukraine’s joint action, Healthy Heart of the Child.

In December 2005, the Lviv City Children’s Community Hospital found a reliable partner for long-term cooperation within the framework of the Hospital to Hospital Program, the Barmhertziger Bruder Hospital (Aisenstadt, Austria). At present it is actively cooperating with the Austrian clinic, receiving considerable aid from this institution. The Ukrainian doctors can undergo training at the partner hospital every two months.

Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko and members of the Ukraine 3000 Fund are staying in Lviv for a one-day working trip. They have already been to the Ukrainian Catholic University and took part in the Fourteenth Book Publishers Forum.
