Give Your Heart to Children Beneficial Soccer Game Ends in Ukrainians’ Victory
September 4, 2007, the Give Your Heart to Children beneficial soccer game took place at the Kyiv Dynamo Stadium. The members of the teams were Andriy Shevchenko, Oleh Blokhin, Igor Bielanov, Volodymyr Klychko, Andriy Medviedev, Serhiy Bubka, Sviatoslav Vakarchuk, Andriy Danylko, Paolo Maldini, Leonardo, Alessandro Costacurta, Gianni Morandi, Ricardo Fogli, and other Ukrainian and international sports and pop stars. The hosts at the game were Masha Yefrosinina and Yuri Horbunov.
Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Kateryna Yushchenko addressed the spectators before the game. She expressed her gratitude to all the visitors and participants of the game. “This is not just supporting the Children’s Hospital of the Future project but helping little Ukrainians,” she said. “I am sure that the game will prove an athletic and charitable event of the year. I will support both teams today, because we are all taking part in the same great cause,” Mrs. Yushchenko said.
Andriy Shevchenko and Gianni Morandi also delivered speeches. On behalf of the Italian team, Mr. Morandi donated € 50,000 for the construction of the Children’s Hospital of the Future.
President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko, renowned French actor Gerard Depardieu, other renowned politicians, athletes, and public figures were watching the game. In total, over 15,000 soccer fans visited the Dynamo Stadium that day.
The final score was 5 - 4 to the Ukrainians. Andriy Shevchenko awarded captain of the Italian team Gianni Morandi and Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko with trophy cups.
After the game Italian pop star Gianni Morandi gave a concert, ending in a fireworks show.
The Give Your Heart to Children beneficial soccer game was initiated by Andriy Shevchenko Charitable Fund and Obolon Company. Its goal is popularizing healthy lifestyle, positive values, and charitable traditions among the Ukrainians. The receipts from the game will be channeled to the Ukraine 3000 Fund for the creation of the Children’s Hospital of the Future and to the Andriy Shevchenko Charitable Fund’s charitable projects.
