Ukraine 3000 Fund Donates an Ultrasonic Examination Apparatus to Chernivtsy Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital No. 2
July 18, 2007, representatives of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund with Head of the Fund’s Supervisory Board Kateryna Yushchenko visited the Chernivtsy Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital No. 2.
The guests took a tour of the hospital premises, visited the diagnosing department, the department for rehabilitation of children with organic lesions of the central nervous system and therapeutic gymnastics room. Mrs. Kateryna and the Fund representatives talked to the little patients and their parents and held a brief meeting with staff members and members of the hospital’s Board of Trustees.
On behalf of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund. Mrs. Yushchenko gave Chief Physician of the Chernivtsy Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital No. 2 Natalia Shevchuk a certificate for an ultrasonic examination apparatus, SLE-101 MF echotomoscope. The costs of the equipment are UAH 100,000. Mrs. Kateryna also gave the hospital an icon of Jesus Christ.
In their turn, the hospital staff presented Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko the Bukovyna Dialects book and a beadwork belt.
During her stay in Chernivtsi, Mrs. Yushchenko met with media representatives. Talking to the journalists, she emphasized the fact that Chernivtsy oblast had announced year 2007 the Year of Medicine. She called it a great example all Ukraine’s oblasts should follow. “I believe every year should be a year of medicine and education,” Mrs. Kateryna said. “Our children’s health and knowledge define the future of our country.” Chernivtsy Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital No. 2 is member of the Hospital to Hospital program by the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund. The hospital functions since 1989, its bed capacity is 90. 37 doctors and 77 nurses work at the hospital. Initially it was designed as city children’s hospital for children suffering the consequences of ecological disasters (chemical exogenic intoxication and the Chernobyl accident). Today the hospital serves as a center of medical and outpatient aid to the children of the oblast, as well as treating eco-induced pathologies, and a research and methodical canter on organizing outpatient and specialized medical aid, diagnosing and treatment of eco-induced pathologies, and research base. The hospital promotes healthy lifestyle, studies and analyses the data on children’s health in the oblast, introduces new treatment and diagnosing methods. Besides, the hospital takes part in an international program to prevent birth defects. With the support from the American Ukrainian Federation, a nurse from the US came to the Chernivtsy Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital No. 2 for a two-weeks training.
Within the framework of the Hospital to Hospital program, in 2006 the hospital has received charitable aid in the form of medical equipment, medicine, and children’s books totaling around UAH 85,500. In part, in March 2006, due to Ukraine’s Permanent Representative at the UN, the hospital received an ECD machine and Holter’s ECD system totaling over UAH 65,000.
