July 18, 2007, the Children’s Hospital of the Future Charitable  Fund held a press conference at the UNIAN Informational Agency, announcing the schedule of the final part of the competition to select general designer of the All-Ukrainian Center to Protect Mothers’ and Children’s Health, the Children’s Hospital of the Future. Among the participants of the press conference were Advisor to the Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 Fund Andriy Myroshnichenko, Executive Director of the Children’s Hospital of the Future Charitable  Fund Olena Kovalenko, Member of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 Fund Vasyl Vovkun,  and Head of the Fund’s Press Service Maryna Antonova.

In course of the press conference, its participants familiarized the journalists with the schedule of the competition to select General Designer of the Children’s Hospital of the Future announced May 21, 2007.

Mr. Miroshnychenko said that in May 2007 the Fund signed an agreement with Ukryevrointegratsiya Consulting Company (Lviv), providing services in the sphere of project management. The company secured the logistics of the contest’s organization and management, in part, monitoring global and national architectural and design organizations and helping to work out the Contest documentation. By the monitoring results, a list of potential participants was formed, containing 50 companies from throughout the world. All these companies were sent an invitation to take part in the contest. Around 20 responses came from companies, who, understanding how extremely important and interesting this project is, voiced their readiness to work on it. The said companies received a complete set of Contest Documentation. In the next two months some of these companies refused to participate for various reasons.

The press conference participants described the events envisaged by the final part of the competition. July 19 at 6:00 Kyiv time is the deadline for submitting Contest proposals. The proposals will be opened July 20.

The companies taking part in the contest are to submit Contest Proposals including:

  1. Draft project of the All-Ukrainian Center to Protect Mothers’ and Children’s Health (on the stands in a graphic form).
  2. Concept idea of the All-Ukrainian Center to Protect Mothers’ and Children’s Health (as an explanatory note no bigger than ten pages in printed text).
  3. Supplementary documents (general information on the Participant, qualification part of the Contest Proposal, schedule of the job implementation, etc.), to be preserved till the end of the Contest and announcing its results.

The proposals will be considered by the Contest Committee, whose members are globally renowned architects and medical workers from Europe, North America, and CIS countries. Members of the Contest Committee will consider the proposals from the viewpoint of architectural execution and consistence with the medical task. The Contest will meet on July 25-26. The contest procedure will be independently observed by the Contest’s Supervisory Board whose members are representatives of the Pediatrists’ Association of Ukraine, Notary Chamber, and Lawyers Association of Ukraine.

Draft projects submitted to the contest will be available for all willing to view them. To this end, from July 23 to 26, the Draft Project of the All-Ukrainian Center to Protect Mothers’ and Children’s Health exhibition will take place at the Ukrainian House in Kyiv. Member of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 Fund and renowned film director Vasyl Vovkun spoke in more detail about the concept of the exhibition. He said that its goal was not only presenting contest projects to the public but also emphasize the completion of an important stage of the great project, the Children’s Hospital of the Future. Mr. Vovkun also said that a list of philanthropists contributing into the creation of the Hospital would be available at the Ukrainian House’s Central Hall. The exhibition will be open from 10:00 am till 6:00 pm, admission free of charge.

Mr. Miroshnychenko added that July 24, 2007, the Board of Trustees of the Children’s Hospital of the Future Charitable Program would hold its first meeting. The members of the Supervisory Board are biggest philanthropists and public figures. It is planned that Head of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Kateryna Yushchenko will take part in the meeting.

Mr. Miroshnychenko also described the procedure of selecting the winners. July 26, the Contest Committee will hold its final meeting, selecting three best proposals of all submitted. On the basis of the Contest Committee’s decision the supreme governing body of the Children’s Hospital of the Future Charitable Fund, the Conference, will carry out the procedure of selecting the winners. The Conference members will thoroughly consider the commercial part of the proposal: the costs, payment conditions, terms, business reputation, etc. The company whose proposal will satisfy the Conference delegates in these terms, will be announced the winner.

Members of the press-conference assured media people that all procedures of the final part of the contest to select general designer will be open and transparent. A briefing by members of the Children’s Hospital of the Future Charitable Program is on the agenda along with broadcasting the Conference on big screen at the Ukrainian House’s Central Hall and a press conference by Contest Committee and Supervisory Board members.
