Vinnytsia Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital Receives Neonatology and Lab Equipment form Ukraine 3000 Fund

June 20, 2007, Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko and other Ukraine 3000 Fund representatives visited the Vinnytsia Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital. Among other participants of the event were Director of the Children’s Onco-Hematology and Marrow Transplantation Center at the OKHMATDIT Children’s Specialized Hospital Svitlana Donska, Corresponding Member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Merited Doctor of Ukraine Vitaly Maidannyk, Director General of the Hanza Joint-Stock Company Petro Bahriy, Head of the Vinnytsia Oblast State Administration Oleksandr Dombrovsky, Head of the Vinnytsia Oblast Council Hryhory Zabolotny, and Vinnytsia City Mayor Volodymyr Hroysman.

The guests took a tour of the hospital, visiting the Children’s Onco-Hematology Center, Neonatology Center, and Newborn’s ICU. They talked to the doctors and medical staff representatives and visited some wards, greeting little patients and their parents.

On behalf of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund, Mrs. Yushchenko presented to the Vinnytsia Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital medical equipment: three electric breast pumps, digital and mechanical newborns’ scales, and a newborns’ first aid kit for a mobile neonatology team. Mrs. Kateryna also presented books and toys for the playrooms. The total cost of the presents is around UAH 68,000. Mrs. Yushchenko also presented to the hospital an Our Lady icon from the Yushchenko family.

Besides, from the Ukraine 3000 Fund and Hanza Joint-Stock Company, Hanza Director General Petro Bahriy presented to the hospital lab equipment: automatic analyzer for electrochemioluminescence diagnosing by Roche Company. The analyzer, able to make important tests for tumor markers, hormones, thyroid gland function, infections, bone markers, anemia, diabetes, etc., will be installed at the Children’s Onco-Hematology Center lab. The total value of the equipment is UAH 500,000. At present, a part of the equipment with total value UAH 230,000 has been passed over to the hospital. The lab will be completely set by September 1, 2007.

The Vinnytsia Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital is member of the Ukraine 3000 Fund’s Hospital to Hospital program. The hospital was founded in 1980. Around 170 doctors and 380 paramedics work here. Its total bed capacity is 408, and the consultative clinics receives 500 patients per shift. The hospital has an experience of cooperation with foreign partners and has repeatedly taken part in international projects. In part, from 1999 till 2002 it had been actively cooperating with a cardio charitable medical organization. The founders of this cooperation were Great Britain, the US, and New Zealand. The hospital also took part in the Birth Defects Prevention Program.

In course of its cooperation with Hospital to Hospital program, the Vinnytsia Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital has received charitable aid to the amount of over UAH 35,000. Besides, due to the Ukraine 3000 Fund’s support, two Vinnytsia-based doctors had undergone training in the US and India medical institutions.

Director General of the Hanza Joint-Stock Company Petro Bahriy is member of the Board of Trustees of the Vinnytsia Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital.

Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko and the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund representatives are staying in Vynnytsia oblast with a one-day working trip. They will also visit the Vinnytsia National Pyrohov Medical University the Mykola Pyrohov National Museum-Estate.
