Chernihiv Oblast Children’s Hospital Receives 130,000 Worth of Medical Equipment from Ukraine 3000 Fund
June 14, 2007, representatives of the Ukraine 3000 Fund, leaded by the Head of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Supervisory Board Kateryna Yushchenko, visited the Chernihiv Oblast Children’s Hospital. Among other participants of the event were Head of the Ukraine 3000 Fund Board of Directors Oleksandr Maksymchuk, President of the Pediatricians’ Association of Ukraine Yuri Antypkin, President of the Ukrainian Medical Association of North America (UMANA) Dr. Andrew Iwach, Head of the Chernihiv Oblast State Administration Mykola Lavryk, Chernihiv Mayor Oleksandr Sokolov, and representatives of the Ukraine 3000 Fund and Chernihiv OSA.
Accompanied by Head Physician of the hospital Oleksandr Kareta, the guests took a tour of the hospital premises. They visited the newborns’, newborns’ pathologies, and physiotherapy units along with the computer tomography room. Besides, Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko had a brief meeting with young specialists, interns, and heads of the departments. The guests also visited the wards, talking to the little patients and their parents.
On behalf of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund, Mrs. Yushchenko donated to the Chernihiv Oblast Children’s Hospital two newborns’ incubators, a first aid kit, and portable electric breast pump, along with toys and books. The total value of the equipment equals approximately UAH 130,000. Besides, Mrs. Yushchenko gave the hospital an Our Lady icon from the Yushchenko family.
Addressing the doctors and medical staff, Mrs. Yushchenko greeted them on the occasion of the upcoming Medical Workers’ Day. “This holiday is special for our Fund, since we carry out many medical programs and work with medical institutions throughout the country. We know about this sphere’s and its workers’ problems, as well as their attainments, and for us it’s an honor to be in a way connected to this profession,” she said.
Answering the journalists’ questions, Mrs. Kateryna described the medical programs implemented by the Ukraine 3000 Fund. She spoke in more detail about the Hospital to Hospital program, whose member is the Chernihiv Oblast Children’s Hospital, and about the Joy of the Childhood: Free Movements program and Children’s Hospital of the Future project. Besides, Mrs. Kateryna spoke about the Ukraine 3000 Fund’s activities in Chernihiv oblast, in part, cultural and educational programs.
The Chernihiv Oblast Children’s Hospital participates in the Hospital to Hospital program by the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund. The hospital was founded in 1973. It has over 90 doctors and 365 paramedics. Its bed capacity is 530. The consultative outpatients’ clinic receives 150 patients per shift in 23 specialties. The clinic has a day patient unit, vision protection room, and audiologist’s room.
The hospital has a longstanding successful experience of work with the US Foundation for International Professional Exchange, charitable organizations in Great Britain, Germany, and Italy. Doctors from the US, Italy, and Cuba had been working at the hospital. For developing friendly relations with the state of Tennessee, the state governor awarded Head Physician with Chernihiv Oblast Children’s Hospital Oleksandr Kareta a honorary title, Ambassador of Goodwill.
Within the Hospital to Hospital program framework, the Chernihiv Oblast Children’s Hospital has received a cardio equipment set (the Healthy Heart of the Child joint action by the Ukraine 3000 Fund and McDonalds Ukraine) and blood sugar control systems (glukometers).
Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Kateryna Yushchenko and the Fund representatives are staying in Chernihiv oblast for a one-day working trip. In addition to the Chernihiv Oblast Children’s Hospital, they are planning to visit the Chernihiv Oblast Korolenko Scientific Universal Library and Chernihiv Shevchenko State Pedagogical University.
