Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund and McDonalds Ukraine Ltd. Donate Cardio Equipment to Ukrainian Children’s Hospitals
January 26, 2007, the Strazhesko Cardiology Institute hosted a ceremony of donating cardiologic equipment to representatives of 18 Ukraine’s children’s hospitals. Head of the Board of Directors of the Ukraine 3000 Fund Oleksandr Maksymchuk, Director of the Hospital to Hospital Program Vira Pavliuk, Coordinator with the Hospital to Hospital Program Inna Holovanchuk, PR Manager with McDonalds Ukraine Mykhailo Shuranov, and representatives of the clinics receiving the equipment were present at the ceremony.
Hospitals representatives received certificates for cardio equipment sets including 12-channel synchronous ECG recorder (with 100 paper rolls and 12 bottles of ECG gel), and 24-hour blood pressure monitor. The equipment was purchased with the money raised in course of the Healthy Heart of the Child charitable action, held jointly by the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund and McDonalds Ukraine Ltd. from October 8 till 20, 2006. This event was part of the traditional McDonalds Children’s Day charitable action.
In his speech, Mr. Maksymchuk said that the Healthy Heart of the Child was second Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund’s and McDonalds Ukraine Ltd.’s joint charitable action. He recalled that in November 2005 the Ukraine 3000 Fund had joined into the McDonalds Children’s Day action, resulting into reconstruction of a number of family rooms at the children’s oncology at the Oncology Institute of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine. Mr. Maksymchuk expressed his hope that further cooperation between the Ukraine 3000 Fund and McDonalds Ukraine Ltd. would be no less successful and fruitful.
Mr. Shuranov spoke about the World McDonalds Children’s Day charitable action, which was held in 2006 for the fifth time. He recalled that in course of this action, every McDonald’s customer could buy special paper hands, bracelets, or charms. The raised funds are traditionally used for charity. Mr. Shuranov explained that the company announced the goal of the fundraising on the eve of every action. He said that 211,000 people took part in the Healthy Heart of the Child, donating UAH 500,000 ($100,000). “I hope the equipment purchased with this money will prove useful for doctors and children,” Mr. Shuranov added.
Ms. Pavliuk described major ways of implementing the Ukraine 3000 Fund’s Hospital to Hospital Program. Most hospitals receiving equipment are members of this program. Ms. Pavliuk provided a brief account of the Program’s further plans, in part, trainings for doctors in Ukraine and abroad. She urged the doctors present at the meeting to take part in these trainings.
On behalf of cardiologists, Chief Physician with the UkrTeleMed Research and Practice Consultative Medical Center Yuri Pohoretsky expressed sincere gratitude to the Ukraine 3000 Fund and McDonalds Ukraine Ltd. He said it was the first time since the establishing of the independent Ukraine that functional cardiologic equipment was donated to hospitals. Mr. Pohoretsky gave mementos to representatives of the Ukraine 3000 Fund and McDonalds Ukraine Ltd.
After the ceremony, the doctors were given a training session on working with the devices and presentation of innovative diagnosing methods in children’s cardiology. Besides, Chief Cardiologist with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine Yuri Sirenko delivered a lecture on 24-hour blood pressure monitoring.
