Kateryna Yushchenko Presents Children's Hospital of the Future Project in Donetsk
October 20, 2006, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund Kateryna Yushchenko presented the project to create and construct the Children's Hospital of the Future at the Donetsk Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital.
Among other participants of the presentation held in the form of a press conference were Advisor to the Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 Fund Andriy Myroshnychenko and Honorary President of the Transbank Joint Stock Company and member of the Supervisory Board of the Children’s Hospital of the Future Fund Volodymyr Kosterin.
Addressing the journalists, Mrs. Yushchenko said, “Creating this hospital will give us a chance to not only treat most heavy children’s diseases in Ukraine but also help the Ukrainian medicine achieve a new level and introduce innovative medical technologies to save Ukrainian children’s lives (…) We are proud of the fact that the number of philanthropists in Ukraine is growing constantly. This is evidence of a true civil society emerging in Ukraine. Every day new partners are joining us, businesspeople and civil organizations sharing our view on common responsibility for solving urgent social problems.”
Mr. Myroshnychenko spoke in more detail on the project to create and construct the Children's Hospital of the Future in Kyiv. He also told the audience about the ways of raising funds for the project. Mr. Myroshnychenko said that renowned Ukrainian television channels, such as ICTV, 1+1, Inter, NTN, Tonis, STB, NTKU, M1 Music Channel, and 24 Cjhannel, have joined the action. A telethon will be launched on this channels December 1 to support the project to create and construct the Children's Hospital of the Future in Kyiv. Advisor to the Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 Fund said that all mobile network operators in Ukraine have also supported this project. Since October 1, 2006, all subscribers of UMC, KyivStar, Golden Telecom, life:), and Beeline can make a charitable contribution by sending an SMS to the number 353 or calling this number, thus transferring UAH 5 ($1) from their account to the account of the Children's Hospital of the Future.
In his turn, Mr. Kosterin spoke about the Transbank’s support to the action on creating and constructing the hospital. He emphasized that the Transbank views the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund as a reliable partner, expressing his hope that Donetsk businesspeople would join the project.
Ms. Yushchenko and other participants of the press conference answered numerous journalists questions on the details of the Children's Hospital of the Future construction and further functioning.
Before the beginning of the press conference Mrs. Yushchenko had visited the Infant Intensive Care Unit of the Donetsk Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital and talked to its staff. This hospital is member of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund’s Hospital to Hospital program. The Ukraine 3000 Fund and its partners have passed over to the Donetsk Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital equipment for the Neonatology Unit, dressing material, antiasthma drugs, newborn scales, glucometers, and children’s books to the total amount of over UAH 120,000 ($24,000).
Representatives of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Fund also met with Donetsk oblast doctors and businesspeople.
These events were part of the promotional tour of Ukraine’s oblast centers to present and raise funds for the project on creating and constructing the Children's Hospital of the Future. The project was launched on September 29, 2006, in Lviv and earlier was presented in Sumy, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Poltava.
The construction of the All-Ukrainian Health Protection Center for Mothers and Children (the Children’s Hospital of the Future) is envisaged by the Cabinet Decision No. 722 of May 25, 2006, and Clause 17 of the Universal of National Unity.
