
Third Candle in the Window Posters Contest Dedicated to Holodomor Manmade Famine of 1932-1933 in Ukraine
The Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation, as part of its History Lessons: Manmade Famine of 1932-1933 program, announces a contest of posters dedicated to Holodomor.
The contest will last till September 28, 2007.
Professional artists, designers, art students, etc., are encouraged to participate. To take part in the contest, one has to submit THREE or more poster sketches related to the contest theme. Subjects can be freely chosen by the authors. Every sketch has to contain an image, text, and explanatory note (up to 500 words) revealing author’s attitude toward Holodomor and explaining the symbols embedded in the picture.
The posters shall meet the contest theme’s meaning and specifics. They have to play the role of symbols calling on the Ukrainians:
- To remember always the Manmade Famine of 1932-1933;
- To be considerate toward complicated pages of their own history and unite around their common historical memory;
- To understand that tragedies like the Holodomor famine should never happen again.
There are no restrictions regarding the technique (painting, graphics, photography, collage, full-color or black-and-white, etc.) It is allowed to use images of monuments to Holodomor victims in Ukraine or abroad.
The winners will receive money prizes.
The sketches shall be sent to the organizers as hard copies in A2 format or through email (as *.tiff or *.jpg, 420x297 mm, 300 pixels for color images and 600 for black-and-white). All images have to be sized as A2. Please attach information about the author (and co-authors) in free format. Please give your quick contacts.
The winners will receive money prizes:
One first prize – UAH 5,000. Two second prizes – UAH 2,500. Three third prizes – UAH 1,000.
Special prizes can be established based on the Contest Committee’s recommendations.
The sketches are not reviewed and/or returned. The participants of the contest agree that the Ukraine 3000 Foundation reserves the right to use their works in its statute activities with mandatory refernce to the author.
The results of the contest will be reviewed and announced by the Day of the Memory of Holodomor Victims (last Saturday of November). Best works will be displayed at a show.
