Two patients of the Chemotherapy and Oncology Department of the Children’s Onco-Hematology and Marrow Transplantation Center, Katia Mayorova (11) and Serhiy Didkovsky (17), dreamed to meet the President of Ukraine. Viktor Yushchenko visited the kids and brought them presents.

The organizers of the Living Pictures exhibition gave each child a photo camera. They announced a best photo contest among the children participating in today’s action. The competition will continue till March 15, when the works will be collected by organizers and the best of them put on display.

The Tender Committee resolved to create an Expert Committee to process the bids, with Head of the Ukraine 3000 Foundation’s Medical Programs Department Vira Pavliuk as its head. It was decided to invited independent experts as the Committee members. The Expert Committee will be processing the bids till January 25, 2010.

The group is to visit the Living Pictures display by Peter Lik (Australia), Svaroh’s Circle by sculptor Anatoly Kushch, and The Tree of Ukraine exhibition of Scythian gold. Finally, the awards ceremony the children’s photo contest will be held.

Mrs. Kateryna expressed her hope that Zabuzhko’s new novel would be adapted for screen. “Not everybody is prepared today to give their life for Ukraine,” she said. “You show people able to sacrifice themselves for their country. Everybody has to see it.”

The concert, hosted by the St. Michael’s and St. Hudula’s Cathedral, was prepared by the Brussels Ukrainian community. It featured pieces performed by a children’s choir.

Kateryna Yushchenko handed out the award to the winner of the Philanthropist 2009 Competition in the Transnational Company nomination to Intel Ukraine Microelectronics Ltd Corporation.

Before the ceremony, at 4:00 p.m., a briefing with competition winners will be held. The journalists will get a chance to talk to the philanthropists whose good deeds have been recognized determinant for Ukraine’s charity in 2009.

The best charitable projects to proceed into the second round will be selected by December 30, 2009. The second stage, envisaging implementation of the selected projects, will continue till April 10, 2010.

The event was held in Kyiv, at the Metropolitan’s Chambers of St. Sophia Church, and was dedicated to announcing the results of the Philanthropist 2009 competition.

Recall that the Fourth All-Ukrainian Grant Competition for Treatment and Rehabilitation Institutions for Children with Cerebral Palsy was held July 22 – October 31, 2009. The total of 77 applications from 21 Ukraine’s oblasts was submitted.

Mrs. Kateryna highly appraised the Ukrainian Cinema Foundation’s work on promoting the Ukrainian cinema globally. However, in her words, it is high time to introduce the best attainments of the classic and new Ukrainian cinema to the Ukrainian spectator. “This is a part of our culture. We should know, respect, and love the Ukrainian cinema,” she said.
