The Philanthropist of the year national competition is being held in Ukraine for the second time. Its organizers are the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation, Children’s World All-Ukrainian Charitable Fund, Center for Philanthropy, Ukrainian Philanthropists’ Forum, and Civil Space Informational and Analytical Center.

The participants of the conference also familiarized themselves with the work of the Rosynka rehabilitation center, winner of the First All-Ukrainian Grant Competition for Patient Care and Rehabilitation Facilities for Children with Cerebral Palsy in 2006, which received a UAH 50,000 grant for equipping a swimming pool.

Mrs. Kateryna met with the School’s high management, in part, Dean Scott Meadow, Deputy Deans Stacey R. Kole and Caroline Karr, faculty members of the University and School of Business. Also was present Michael Polsky, alumni of the Chicago Graduate School of Business and founder of some of its programs, in part, the Center for Entrepreneurship.

The parties agreed to cooperate in experience exchange and training programs between Ukrainian and American doctors and also on the program to create the All-Ukrainian Center to Protect Mothers’ and Children’s Health, a.k.a. the Children’s Hospital of the Future.

Mrs. Kateryna familiarized herself with the lab’s work and exhibits and talked to staff members. Mr. Sereno gave Mrs. Yushchenko an account of his laboratory’s major researches and expeditions, in part, the results of the latest expeditions to Mongolia and Africa. He also described in more detail educational programs for children in which he takes part, aimed at arousing kids’ interest in paleontology and archeological research projects.

Also present were representatives of Chicago public organizations and City Council working with people with limited capacities, educational institutions, Chicago Sister Cities Committee, Field Museum, and the Chicago 2016 Olympic Committee.

The subject of the conference was the plans for training Ukrainian professionals for the All-Ukrainian Center to Protect Mother's and Children's Health, a.k.a. Children's Hospital of the Future. In part, the parties discussed one-three weeks trainings for multidiscipline teams of pediatricians, neonatologists, obstetricians, gynecologists, IC specialists, and managers. Ukrainian experts prepared lists of issues which, in their opinion, should be included into the training curriculums in each area.

Assistant Executive Director Terry Longo presented to Mrs. Kateryna his agency, whose goal is helping people who are blind or visually impaired. Mr. Longo described the agency’s attainments in job placement for the blind people and its programs, encouraging employers to hire people who are blind or visually impaired.

The Holodomor 1932-1933: Ukraine Remembers, the World Recognizes special project was launched by the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation as part of its History Lessons: Manmade Famine of 1932-1933 program. It is a special section of the Glavred Independent Analytical Agency’s website, where historical research papers, interviews, informational, analytical, and polemical materials will be published on a weekly basis within the context of the 75th anniversary of Holodomor.

The program’s key objective is present opportunities for self-fulfillment and development of a cultural sector, independent from the state, which is unable to implement its projects without external support. The program’s range is very wide: from popularizing folk traditions to developing the newest and most unique artistic trends.

Currently, during the fifth shift (June 22-July 12) ten winners are staying in Artek. Another 14 are to go there for the sixth shift (July 15-August 4). Among the young contestants are students from schools, lyceums, and gymnasiums from all Ukraine’s regions who have gone through the regional selections and meet certain age criteria.

To the Ukraine 3000 Foundation’s efforts, the Institute for Pediatrics, Obstetrics, and Gynecology received a modern high-quality ALV apparatus to the cost of UAH 168,000, and the OKHMATDYT Ukrainian Children’s Specialized Hospital – a diagnostic EEG system for newborns to the cost of UAH 176,750.

June 18, 2008, the Second International Scholarly Conference “Diaspora as a Factor in Strengthening the Ukrainian State within the International Community. The Ukrainian Diaspora in the Global Context” opened in Lviv. Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Kateryna Yushchenko sent an address to the participants of the conference, which was read out by Head of the Board of Directors of the Foundation Oleksandr Maksymchuk at the conference’s opening ceremony.

Mrs. Yushchenko congratulated Ms. Kriukova, who was awarded with the Hero of Ukraine title by a presidential order. The Order was red out by Head of the Chief Humanitarian Policy and Cultural Heritage Administration at the Secretariat of the President Oleksandr Bystrushkin.
