Thirteenth McHappy Day action launched

10 November 2014 00:14

This year marks the 13th McHappy Day in the history of McDonald’s Ukraine. From November 1-30, visit participating McDonald’s restaurants and help us to raise money for specialized cardiac ambulances for children with heart defects.

“Each year thousands of children with congenital heart defects need surgical treatment. A timely surgery gives them a good chance for full recovery. Their condition requires adequate means of transportation. Cardiologic clinics really need the specialized vehicles”, says pediatric specialist Vira Pavliuk, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Director of Medical Programs at Ukraine 3000.

To get involved and make a difference, you can buy entertaining children’s books, paper hands, silicon bracelets and on November 9 – the French fryers. To donate online, go to or make a donation through Ochadbank ATMs.

McDonald’s Ukraine continuously promotes its cause to mobilize new partners for the action. This year, Ochadbank and Glowberrry Books Publishers got behind the fundraiser. Media assets including TV Channel 1+1 and the Edinstvennaya women’s magazine ensure an extensive publicity campaign. The Polish company Farm Frites donated UAH 240.000 to the cause.

To date, McHappy Day action in Ukraine raised the record breaking UAH 19 million. All funds went to procure cardiology, pulmonology and neonatal resuscitation and emergency aid equipment technologies for children’s clinics and maternity hospitals in over 50 cities and towns.

McHappy Day is McDonald’s signature fundraiser. Since its inception in 2002, it is conducted each year in over 100 countries around the globe. Its aim is to promote charitable giving and to make a difference in healthcare for children. It is held in November because the UN adopted the Convention on Children’s Rights in this month in 1989.

Starting from 2005, Ukraine 3000 is the long-standing partner of the fundraiser.

World Giving Index 2014 Ukraine on place 103
The data we have here clearly does not represent the engagement of Ukrainians in charitable giving, comments Oleksandr Maksymchuk, President of the Association of Charities of Ukraine. Given the present situation in the country, Ukraine experiences an unusual positive growth in the charitable sector. For Ukrainians the engagement across all types of giving is now a commonplace activity. The Revolution of Dignity changed our society completely as both citizens and businesses throughout the country demonstrate high levels of social responsibility. The pro-European rallies united Ukrainians and manifested the importance of mutual help and support. Today we do everything in our power to help the soldiers who are defending our sovereignty in the east. And we are confident that in the future the generosity of our people will only grow stronger. »»
