Kateryna Yushchenko Takes Part in "Free market Capitalism has failed in the Former Soviet States" debates

June 15, 2009, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Kateryna Yushchenko took part in public debates "Free market Capitalism has failed in the Former Soviet States". The event, hosted by Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theater, was organized by Foundation for Effective Governance together with British-based Intelligence Squared Company and BBC World News.
Among the participants were British-based journalist and TV host David Aaronovitch; economist and former president nominee in Russia Irina Khakamada, and People’s Deputy of Ukraine journalist Andriy Shevchenko. The moderator was one of BBC World News’s most popular presenters Zeinab Badawi. Over 600 people came to listen to the discussion, among them – renowned politicians, public figures, representatives of the authorities, and students.
The debates’ format envisaged proving or disproving the main thesis: Capitalism has failed in the former Soviet states. Pro arguments were presented by Irina Khakamada and David Aaronovitch, contra - Kateryna Yushchenko and Andriy Shevchenko. Every speaker had a chance to voice his or her opinion and then answer numerous questions from the public.
BBC World News will broadcast the debate July 4, 2010, in 225 countries to an estimated audience of 76 million all over the world.
