
Kateryna Yushchenko Visits Lviv State University of Life Safety

October 7, 2009, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Kateryna Yushchenko visited Lviv State University of Life Safety.
Accompanied by Rector, Major General of Civil Defense Agency, Prof. Mykhaylo Koziar, Mrs. Yushchenko toured the university. She visited the fire prevention room, foreign languages and technical translation, engineering, computer graphics and modeling, and emergency response training labs. Mrs. Kateryna also visited the library and museum
Kateryna Yushchenko visited the Psychological Training Center for fire and rescue squads and familiarized herself with the training complex, recreating real conditions of an emergency situation.
Mrs. Yushchenko also visited the fire prevention drill center, training 112 call center, and decision support system for an emergency response operation head. The students demonstrated the call center in operation, having modeled a fire situation.
Mrs. Kateryna also visited the training gym and watched the cadets doing exercises on rescue training.
After that, Mrs. Yushchenko visited Our Lady’s Veil Church at the university.
Lviv State University of Life Safety exists for over 60 years. It trains specialists for ESM and other ministries’ and administrations’ subdivisions and private organizations dealing with safety issues in all spheres: informational and transportation safety, fire and technological safety, ecology and environmental safety, job safety, etc. At present, there are over 4,000 students and cadets and over Ukraine 3000 Foundation professors at the University.
Faculty members take an active part in working out and perfecting fire rescue equipment and techniques, introducing national and European mechanisms for preventing various threats. They also make a considerable contribution into creating a legislative base for civil defense. The students and faculty take an immediate part in various emergency rescue situations and are always prepared for any kind of relief operation.
Lviv State University of Life Safety is Ukraine’s only university admitted to the European Fire Service Colleges Association (EFSCA). It gives a chance to broadly implement the experience of the EU countries in the sphere of human safety, scientific research results, and experience in specialists’ training.
Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko is staying in Lviv for a two-days working trip, whose main goal is attending the Second Ecumenical Social Week. October 6, Mrs. Kateryna made a speech at the On the Past for Future’s Sake: Historical Truth of the Soviet Period plenary session and took part in the presentation of the Repressed Spirituality: Destroying the Church, Religion, and Traditional Rites in Ukraine by the Communist Regime exhibition by Ukraine 3000 Foundation. October 7, Mrs. Yushchenko visited Lviv Boarding School for Blind Children No. 100.
