Head of the Board of Directors of Ukraine 3000 Foundation Oleksandr Maksymchuk Takes Part in the Opening Ceremony of the Days of the Ukrainian Cinema in Munich

September 8, 2009, Head of the Board of Directors of Ukraine 3000 Foundation Oleksandr Maksymchuk took part in the opening ceremony of the Days of the Ukrainian Cinema in Munich: Ukrainian Film Panorama festival. The event was organized by the Ukrainian Cinema Foundation and Nemiroff Company as part of the Ukrainian Cinema in the World program.

Also took part in the ceremony: Consul General of Ukraine in Munich Yuri Yarmilko, Munich Mayor Christian Ude, and Director of the Ukrainian Cinema Foundation Andriy Khalpakhchi.

The event was hosted by the Munich Cinema Museum, where September 8-16, 2009 classical and modern Ukrainian full-length, short, and animation films will be demonstrated. The event drew German audience’s attention and was a full-house.

Addressing the audience, Mr. Maksymchuk emphasized the Ukraine 3000 Foundation’s active and dynamic cooperation with various German organizations. In part, he quoted the Rift through Life project by Ukraine 3000 Foundation and Provincial Rhineland Alliance, which had that same morning started its tour of Ukraine’s western oblasts.

“The Munich festival is just another step to popularizing the Ukrainian cinema in the world,” Mr. Maksymchuk said. He thanked the Ukrainian Cinema Foundation, Nemiroff Company, and Munich Cinema Museum who had made that event happen.

After the opening ceremony, Kira Muratova’s film, Brief Encounters, was demonstrated.

The Days of the Ukrainian Cinema in Munich: Ukrainian Film Panorama festival will feature the biggest program of all ever presented by the Ukrainian Cinema Foundation: eight full-length films and six short.

German public will have a chance to make an acquaintance with Ukrainian classics: Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors by Serhiy Parajanov, The Spring for the Thirsty by Yuri Illenko, Brief Encounters by Kira Muratova, Flights in Dreams and in Reality by Roman Balayan. Modern Ukrainian cinema will be represented by Oles Sanin’s Mamay, Eva Neyman’s At the River, Kira Muratova’s Two in One, and Roman Balayan’s Birds of Paradise. Short and animation films will be presented as a separate program: Streetcar No. 9 by Stepan Koval, Upsun by Valentyn Vasianiovych, Adolescence by Dmytro Sukholytky-Sobchuk, Family Portrait by Maryna Vroda, On the Edge by Artem Sukharev and Mykyta Ratnikov, and Taxi Driver by Roman Bondarchuk.

A round table is scheduled for September 10 in Munich, Trends in Ukrainian Cinema.
