
Kateryna Yushchenko Visits Polish Institute of National Remembrance

September 7, 2009, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Kateryna Yushchenko visited the Polish Institute of National Remembrance. Also took part in the event Head of the Institute of National Remembrance of Ukraine Ihor Yukhnovsky.
The Institute of National Remembrance – Commission of the Prosecution of Crimes against the Polish Nation (IPN) was established in 1998. It focuses on collecting and systematizing the state security bodies’ documents dated from 1944-1990, control over them, investigation of Nazi and Communists’ crimes, and education.
The Institute’s President Janusz Kurtyka described its history, major programs, and areas of interest. He, in part, quoted the active and fruitful cooperation between the Institute, Security Service of Ukraine, and Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance.
Mrs. Yushchenko toured the Institute premises, its archives and digitalizing center, talked to the management and staff members.
Mrs. Kateryna presented to the Institute a copy of the old map of Ukraine and a Hutsul plate. Mr. Kurtyka, in his turn, presented her with a catalogue of publications and a collection of books published by the Institute of National Remembrance.
Mrs. Yushchenko is accompanying her husband, President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko, on his state visit to Poland. Earlier she had visited the Institute of Mother and Child in Warsaw and Warsaw University’s library.
