Kateryna Yushchenko Visits Toloka Fest in Artek

19 August 2009 10:24

August 18, 2009, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Kateryna Yushchenko with children visited the Toloka folk crafts festival, held at Artek ICC as part of the Ukraine, Our Land 11th International Youth and Children’s Creativity Festival.

The event featured Ukrainian folk songs, rendered by numerous folk groups, folk games, dances, etc. The visitors could try their hand in folk crafts: making clay pots, decorating a house with frescoes, or weaving rags. Renowned Ukrainian maestros taught the festival participants the basics of pottery, batik, weaving, doll-making, and stitching.

Children’s folk groups from all Ukraine’s regions presented a concert for the guests and Artek residents. They represented many nationalities living in Ukraine, including the minorities.

Mrs. Kateryna visited the maestros’ tents, talked to the children, and took part in folk games.

The goal of the Ukraine, Our Land 11th International Youth and Children’s Creativity Festival is celebrating the diversity of the national culture of the Ukrainians and other nationalities living in Ukraine. The festival presents musical and dancing traditions of Prykarpattia, Polissia, Volyn, Slobozhanshchina, Central Ukraine, and Ukraine’s ethnic minorities: the Poles, Gagauzes, Karaites, Curds, Koreans, etc. On the festival’s Council of Craftsmen are renowned Ukrainian people of art: People’s Artiste of Ukraine Nina Matviyenko, People’s Artiste of Ukraine Mykhaylo Huzun, Merited Art Worker of Ukraine Petro Kolisnyk, member of the National Artists’ Union of Ukraine Mariya Hryniuk, singer Antonyna Snitko, and representatives of Kosove State Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts and Lviv National Academy of the Arts.
