27 April 2009 14:41

April 25, 2009, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Kateryna Yushchenko took part in a soiree celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Visions du Réel [Visions of Reality] international documentary cinema festival in Nyon, Switzerland.

Yhe Nyon festival was founded in 1969 by Moritz de Hadeln. In the 1970s the festival was special in that it gave a chance to watch films made in the Eastern block countries and presented most interesting Swiss documentaries. Since 1995 the festival has been presided by one of the best cinema critics in Europe Jean Perret. It was named Visions du Réel and promptly became one of the leading documentary forums in Switzerland and the world.

The festival presents classical documentaries, experimental non-feature films, documentary film investigations, and even radio documentaries. It also features round tables and discussions, whose participants at various times were renowned documentary directors Johan van der Keuken, Robert Kramer, Aleksandr Sokurov, Robert Frank, Raymond Depardon, et. al. The festival also features an international film market.

This year Visions du Réel is held April 23-29. It will present The Living film by Serhiy Bukovsky, created on commission from Ukraine 3000 Foundation.

Also present at the soiree were the festival founders Moritz and Erika de Hadeln, honorary president of the festival Jean Schmutz, Nyon mayor Daniel Rosselat, permanent representative of Ukraine at the UN and other international organizations in Geneva Mykola Maymeskul, director of the Ukrainian Cinema Foundation Andriy Khalpakhchi, director Serhiy Bukovsky, and Ukraine 3000 Foundation members. Director of Visions du Réel festival Jean Perret addressed the participants and guests of the ceremony with a welcome speech.

At the end of the soiree, Persona Non Grata film directed by Fabio Wuytack (Italy) was demonstrated. The film narrates the story of the director’s father, Belgian priest Franz Wuytack, who lived and worked in the poorest Caracas blocks in the 1960s.

Mrs. Yushchenko and Ukraine 3000 Foundation members were to Nyon for a two-day visit, taking part in the Visions du Rel international documentary cinema festival events.

World Giving Index 2014 Ukraine on place 103
The data we have here clearly does not represent the engagement of Ukrainians in charitable giving, comments Oleksandr Maksymchuk, President of the Association of Charities of Ukraine. Given the present situation in the country, Ukraine experiences an unusual positive growth in the charitable sector. For Ukrainians the engagement across all types of giving is now a commonplace activity. The Revolution of Dignity changed our society completely as both citizens and businesses throughout the country demonstrate high levels of social responsibility. The pro-European rallies united Ukrainians and manifested the importance of mutual help and support. Today we do everything in our power to help the soldiers who are defending our sovereignty in the east. And we are confident that in the future the generosity of our people will only grow stronger. »»
