Yhe Nyon festival was founded in 1969 by Moritz de Hadeln. In the 1970s the festival was special in that it gave a chance to watch films made in the Eastern block countries and presented most interesting Swiss documentaries. Since 1995 the festival has been presided by one of the best cinema critics in Europe Jean Perret. It was named Visions du Réel and promptly became one of the leading documentary forums in Switzerland and the world.
The festival presents classical documentaries, experimental non-feature films, documentary film investigations, and even radio documentaries. It also features round tables and discussions, whose participants at various times were renowned documentary directors Johan van der Keuken, Robert Kramer, Aleksandr Sokurov, Robert Frank, Raymond Depardon, et. al. The festival also features an international film market.
This year Visions du Réel is held April 23-29. It will present The Living film by Serhiy Bukovsky, created on commission from Ukraine 3000 Foundation.

Director of Visions du Réel festival Jean Perret addressed the participants and guests of the ceremony with a welcome speech.
At the end of the soiree, Persona Non Grata film directed by Fabio Wuytack (Italy) was demonstrated. The film narrates the story of the director’s father, Belgian priest Franz Wuytack, who lived and worked in the poorest Caracas blocks in the 1960s.
