
Kateryna Yushchenko Attends University of Pittsburgh Ukrainian Room

November 29, 2008, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Kateryna Yushchenko visited the University of Pittsburgh, accompanied by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine in the United Stated Oleh Shamshur, members of the Pittsburgh Ukrainian community and Ukraine 3000 Foundation.
Mrs. Yushchenko attended the Ukrainian Room, created by combined effort of the local Ukrainian community and unveiled in June 1990. The room is designed in the Ukrainian Baroque style of the 17th-18th centuries by architect Walter Boykowycz after a design by Lubomyr Kalynych. The Ukrainian Room is one of the 26 national rooms working within the framework of the University’s international programs.
Mrs. Yushchenko toured the Ukrainian Room and talked to its staff members. She presented to the Room books on ethnography, culture, Ukraine’s history, CDs with old and modern Ukrainian music, and other presents.
Mrs. Kateryna held a brief meeting with the University of Pittsburgh management. She presented to the University an etching depicting St. Sophia Church in Kyiv and a reprint of an ancient map of Ukraine.
Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko and Ukraine 3000 Foundation members are staying in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with a working visit on an invitation from the local Ukrainian community. Earlier they visited the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
