November 27, 2008, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Kateryna Yushchenko unveiled Mysteries of Ancient Ukraine: The Remarkable Trypilian Culture exhibit at Royal Ontario Museum. Also present were representatives of the Canadian and Ontario government, Ukrainian community in Canada, Ukrainian culture and arts figures, media people, scholars, researchers, along with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine in Canada Ihor Ostash, General Consul of Ukraine in Toronto Oleksandr Danyleyko, and the Embassy, Consulate, and Ukraine 3000 Foundation members. Unveiling the exhibition, Mrs. Yushchenko thanked Executive Director of the Royal Ontario Museum William Thorsell and Chair of the ROM Governors Board James C. Temerty, whose initiative and financial support had made that event possible.
The Ancient Ukraine: The Remarkable Trypilian Culture exhibition features artifacts from the Trypilian culture, granted by Ukrainian museums and private collections specially for this event. It presents exhibits from National Museum of the History of Ukraine, Institute of Archaeology, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Odessa Archaeological Museum and Vinnytsia Regional Museum, Ukraine. A team of Canadian and Ukrainian scholars had been preparing the exhibition for a month. It is the first time that such a big amount of Trypilian artifacts is presented outside Ukraine with the participation of so many museums.
The exhibition, drawing much attention from the public, will operate till late March 2009. At present, a possibility is being considered for organizing a tour of Canada and the US.
Earlier that day, Mrs. Yushchenko toured the Ancient Ukraine: The Remarkable Trypilian Culture exhibition in the presence of mass media representatives.
The Royal Ontario Museum, founded in 1857, is the fifth biggest museum in North Anerica and Canada’s biggest. Over 40 ROM’s galleries are divided into two major categories: natural history (birds, reptiles, dinosaurs, etc.), and world culture. In total, the museum preserves around 6,000,000 items, including art collections from Middle East, Africa, East Asia, collections on the European and Canadian history, and a vast number of exhibits related to the prehistoric era.
Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko and Ukraine 3000 Foundation representatives are staying in Canada for a working visit, their major mission being the unveiling of the Mysteries of Ancient Ukraine: The Remarkable Trypilian Culture exhibit at the Royal Ontario Museum. Earlier Mrs. Yushchenko met with members of Ukrainian community in Canada and visited the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.
