
Kateryna Yushchenko Attends a Reception of the University of Warsaw Ukrainian Studies Chair’s International Scholarly Conference

November 6, 2008, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Kateryna Yushchenko took part in a reception dedicated to the University of Warsaw Ukrainian Studies Chair’s Ukraine: between the East and the West international scholarly conference. The event was hosted by the Embassy of Poland to Ukraine and attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Poland Oleksandr Motsyk, other Embassy staff members, and Ukraine 3000 Foundation members.
Mrs. Kateryna greeted the participants of the conference and expressed her hope that the University of Warsaw Ukrainian Studies Chair’s activities would set an example for many other universities in the world. She also described some of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation’s programs and projects related to education and culture.
On behalf of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation, Mrs. Yushchenko presented to the Ukrainian Studies Chair a set of books on history and the arts.
The University of Warsaw Ukrainian Studies Chair has been teaching students and conducting research in the areas of Ukrainian studies, comparative linguistics, and Polish-Ukrainian cultural borderland since 1953. The chair deals with Ukrainian studies and general humanitarian sciences. The curriculum embraces Ukrainian language, history, and literature, the theory of grammar, theory and practice of translation, issues related to Ukraine’s culture and politics, and general philological disciplines.
From 1988, the chair has been organizing annual international Ukrainian studies conferences, dedicated to different problems every year. November 6-7, 2008, the Warsaw University is hosting the Twentieth Ukrainian Studies international scholarly conference.
Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko and Ukraine 3000 Foundation members are staying in Warsaw for a working visit for opening the Days of Ukrainian Cinema in Poland. Earlier Mrs. Kateryna visited the unveiling of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine documents exhibition.
