The Wheelchair Dance Sport World Championships for athletes with locomotive apparatus lesions has finished. The event took place October 25-26 in Minsk, Belarus. Six couples from Ukraine took part in the competition: in the Combi category (healthy athlete plus athlete in wheelchair) and Duet category (both athletes in wheelchairs). The competitions were held in Latina and European dancing separately.
The Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation gave financial aid for making stage costumes for one of Ukrainian couples (Ilona Sluhovina and Oleksandr Ivanov, Combi category). The couple, representing Berezil sports and dancing club (Kyiv), won the competition, becoming three-times world champions in wheelchair dance sport.
Ilona Sluhovina, disabled from childhood, is international master of sports and multiple winner of various wheelchair dance sport competitions. She has been dancing for 8 years already. However, this isn’t Ilona’s only hobby. Her spare time she dedicates to another favorite occupation, which she hopes to turn into profession: designing stage costumes for her colleagues.
