The Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation takes part in a new technical support project, Social Integration and Developing Social Responsibility in Young People in Ukraine. The project was presented today, September 23, 2008, at a press conference at the Ministry for Family, Youth, and Sports. Among the participants of the conference were Minister for Family, Youth, and Sports Yuri Pavlenko, Head of the Board of Directors of the Ukraine 3000 Foundation Oleksandr Maksymchuk, UN Development Program Deputy Resident in Ukraine Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecka, Head of the Intel Office in Ukraine Volodymyr Sharov, and Vice President of the Alternativa-V All-Ukrainian Youth Cooperation Alliance Iryna Bodnar.
The Social Integration and Developing Social Responsibility in Young People in Ukraine project was initiated by UN, Ukrainian government, our country’s private and public sectors. It is aimed at supporting youth information centers, in part, in rural areas.
The project will be financed by UNDP, United Nations Volunteer program, and Intel Ukraine with the support from the Ministry for Family, Youth, and Sports, Ministry for Education and Science, and public organizations: the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation, Alternativa-V All-Ukrainian Youth Cooperation Alliance, Peace Corps in Ukraine, the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences, and UNESCO. It is scheduled for three years with a total budget around $1,120,000.
The project’s key objective is supporting social integration of the young and involving them into public activities through developing skills required to actively participate in the national social process and decision making.
The project will embrace 11 Ukraine’s oblast and the Autonomous Republic of the Crimea, with 52 youth centers, created in rural regions with the UNPD support in 2005-2007, to become it participants along with schools and universities.
The project’s activities will be aimed at increasing the potential of the youth centers, young volunteers, and youth public organizations. Special attention will be given to disadvantaged young people, excluded from society. The participation in electronic communities and access to online education resources will be free for a wide range of young people.
In addition, the partners expect the new project to support local economic and social development through creating local networks and supporting youth initiatives to make Ukrainian young people more socially involved.
