The event, presided over by President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko, was dedicated to the problems of orphaned and disabled children, families with many children, and the fight against infant delinquency and homelessness.
Addressing the audience, the President said that the state policy in this area in the last two years had brought certain results. Another part of the President’s speech was dedicated to disabled children. He demanded from the government and local authorities to pay more attention to addressing their problems. In President Yushchenko’s words, these children have to obtain free access to state institutions, rehabilitation, and be supplied with vehicles. In this context, he placed an emphasis on the efficient work of the boarding schools for the disabled children. In his words, the State Prosecutor’s Office has to perform a comprehensive examination of all such schools to reveal any violations of the children’s rights, in part, timely including them into the adoption lists.
