Ukraine 3000 Foundation and MacDonald’s Ukraine Present the Results of the MacDonald’s World Children’s Day

27 February 2008 15:08

February 27, 2008, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Kateryna Yushchenko visited the Sumy Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital. Also present were Head of the Sumy Oblast State Administration Pavlo Kachur, Director General of McDonald’s Ukraine Ltd. Ian Borden, Head of the Board of Directors of the Ukraine 3000 Foundation Oleksandr Maksymchuk, Head Physician of the Sumy Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital Arkady Lushpa, Chief Freelance Expert with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine on toxicology and emergency medical aid Dr. Borys Sheyman, representatives of the local authorities, MacDonald’s Ukraine, and Ukraine 3000 Foundation.

A presentation of the results of the World Children’s Day at MacDonald’s, held from November 5 to 25, 2007, in 16 Ukraine’s cities, was held at the hospital. Every visitor of a McDonald’s restaurant could buy paper hands, charms, and bracelets as tokens of their contribution. The action raised the record-breaking UAH 900,000, considerably exceeding the organizers’ initial expectations. It was decided to channel this money for purchasing emergency medical aid equipment and children’s electric pumps for 30 hospitals in all Ukraine’s oblasts.

Addressing the audience, Mrs. Yushchenko described the cooperation between Ukraine 3000 Foundation and Sumy Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital within the Hospital to Hospital program’s framework. She mentioned the major attainments of this cooperation, in part, establishing partnership between the Sumy and Geneva University hospital.

Speaking about the World Children’s Day at MacDonald’s, Mrs. Yushchenko said that the decision to purchase precisely this equipment had been made even before its start. “Forming a list of equipment for which we were going to raise funds, we thought primarily about most necessary things the doctors need to render emergency aid to children,” she said. Mrs. Kateryna said that 30 Ukrainian patient care institutions had already received their sets of emergency medical aid equipment. The cost for one set is approximately UAH 30,000.

Mrs. Yushchenko also described the earlier charitable actions by Ukraine 3000 Foundation and MacDonald’s Ukraine. She thanked the MacDonald’s Company for fruitful cooperation and expressed her hope that it would remain as efficient and fruitful.

In his turn, Director General of McDonald’s Ukraine Ltd. Ian Borden said that the knowledge and expertise of the Ukraine 3000 Foundation members allow making charitable aid truly effective. “In the three years of our cooperation we have been able to help the Children’s Oncology at the Oncology Institute of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, donate diagnostic cardio equipment to 18 Ukraine’s children’s hospitals and first aid kits – to 30 hospitals,” he said.

“I’m certain that this year our joint effort will make the World Children’s Day at MacDonald’s even greater and increase our help to Ukrainian children’s hospitals,” Mr. Borden said.

Mrs. Yushchenko and Mr. Borden handed over to Head Physician of the Sumy Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital Arkady Lushpa a certificate for the equipment purchased due to the World Children’s Day at MacDonald’s.

Mrs. Kateryna also gave to the hospital equipment from the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation: a modern newborn’s incubator (cost around UAH 45,000) and toys for the playroom.

After the presentation Mrs. Yushchenko and Mr. Borden took part in a meeting of the Board of Trustees at the Sumy Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital.

The cooperation between Ukraine 3000 Foundation and McDonald’s Ukraine started in 2005. Since then, two charitable projects have been implemented within the framework of the McDonalds World Children’s Day action. Due to the 2005 action, family rooms have been refurbished at the Children’s Oncology Dept. of the Oncology Institute at the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine. In 2006, the Healthy Heart of a Child action was held, resulting in the purchase of cardio equipment for 18 children’s hospitals in Ukraine.

The Sumy Oblast Children’s Clinical Hospital is member of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation’s Hospital to Hospital program. Within its framework the hospital has received charitable aid from the Fund in the form of medical equipment, books, and toys for playrooms to the total of over UAH 180,000.

Mrs. Kateryna and Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation representatives are staying in Sumy with a one-day working visit. Earlier they have visited the Sumy Orphanage.
