
Mrs. Kateryna Yushchenko Visits Sumy Orphanage

February 27, 2008, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Kateryna Yushchenko visited the Sumy Orphanage. Also present were Head of the Sumy Oblast State Administration Pavlo Kachur, Director General of McDonald’s Ukraine Ltd. Ian Borden, Head of the Board of Directors of the Ukraine 3000 Foundation Oleksandr Maksymchuk, representatives of the local authorities and Ukraine 3000 Foundation.
The guests took a tour of the institution, visiting the water-cure room for neurological patients, neurology department, and infants department. Mrs. Yushchenko talked to the children staying at the Sumy orphanage and gave them toys.
On behalf of the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation Mrs. Yushchenko handed over to the headmaster a UAH 50,000 certificate to purchase a car for the orphanage. She said that a lot was being done in Ukraine to reduce the number of children living at orphanages. In her words, this requires not only solving economic problems but also improving the morals and quality of family upbringing.
The guests also attended a small concert prepared for them by 3-year-olds.
The Sumy Orphanage hosts 130 children from 12 months to 4 years old, most of whom suffer various diseases.
Mrs. Kateryna and Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation representatives are staying in Sumy with a one-day working visit.
